Overview

What goes around comes around, especially when we’re talking about fashions in the world of cars. One day what once seemed like a tired old model is suddenly transformed in our perception into something quite desirable. Such is certainly the case with the P38 generation of Range Rover. Gone are the days when we looked down on them as ‘just another old car’. Now they’re starting to look a little more appealing, with their classic lines and powerful stance. 

Although there’s already a ‘classic’ Range Rover, the P38 was introduced in 1994, so it’s certainly well into the realm of being a ‘modern classic’. Its narrow pillars and copious quantities of glass give it a stately look, not to mention the kind of visibility you can only dream of in something more modern. And when you open the door and find yourself presented with gently mellowed leather upholstery and warmly patinated burr walnut veneers, you know you’re in the realms of high-class motoring. 

This P38 is effortlessly graceful, if it’s possible for something which weighs well over two tonnes to ever be graceful. It doesn’t shout about itself, instead preferring to quietly go about its business without attracting too much attention. You won’t see any polished alloys or led lights here. So you can let your golden retriever jump up onto the tailgate and head out into the green and pleasant British countryside. 

Having previously been registered on the Bailiwick of Jersey, it has only managed to cover about 30,000 miles since it was registered in 1998. It even comes with a fresh MOT without any advisories, and in the world of old Land Rovers that’s always a good sign.

• The wheels are in very good condition, with no scuffs or damage that we could see

• There is an invoice on file for exhaust silencers and other parts totalling £420 in May 2025

• New air suspension springs were fitted in Feb 2016, along with a new dryer filter assembly

• The front and rear brake discs and pads have all reportedly been replaced recently 

• The seller tells us that the car starts without issue, and the air suspension raises as it should do

• No warning lights reported 

Summary

In all, this Range Rover appears to have been well cared for and only lightly used during its first 30 years on the road. And its advisory-free MOT suggests that the next stage of its life has got off to a good start already. Effortless class and a wafty 4.6-litre V8 engine combine to make this P38 particularly appealing.
