Overview
Refined over decades (five to be exact – and that's not counting the years of development the Lotus 7 went through before it), the Caterham Seven remains the go-to, affordable sports car/track toy for hordes of car fans who relish the pure joy of driving.
Just as capable on the road as it is at Brands Hatch, the Caterham Seven defines what a two-seat, super-lightweight sports car is, proving its worth time and time again at circuits and motorsport events up and down the country.
Still available in either kit form, allowing you to build one yourself following Caterham's six step assembly programme, as well as fully built from the factory, Caterham continues to provide a whole range of Seven's depending on your needs; from the turbocharged, 600cc Suzuki-engined Seven 170 to the full-on Seven 620 with its 310bhp supercharged 2.0-litre Ford Duratec Engine.
There has always been a Seven for every budget and requirement and this 2001 factory-built Viper Blue Caterham Seven Superlight, with all the right extras, is a fantastic version of the marque with just the right amount of power for road use as well as the occasional track day.
Fitted with a 1.6-litre, naturally aspirated K-Series inline-four mated to a Caterham six-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential, it's the perfect blend of power and usability. With a carbon nose, as well as carbon front and rear arches - as per Superlight factory spec, it looks great too and presents in fantastic condition throughout having covered just 24,561 miles from new.
Professionally recommissioned in the summer of 2024, the car is now ready to rock and roll and thanks to additional optional features, including inclement weather equipment, a heater, a track day roll bar, and an anti-cavitation tank, it's ready for both the road and whichever circuit you decide to send it on. Complete with decent service history and a fresh, advisory-free MOT, it looks to be just the ticket.
