Overview
The GOAT of off-roaders since its inception in the '80s, the Land Rover Defender can trace its roots all the way back to 1948 and remains one of the most beloved and capable four-by-fours by far.
Following on from the Land Rover Series models - Blighty's version of the US Willys Jeep – the Defender featured a few key improvements over its older brothers, most notably coil sprung suspension all round for increased comfort and axle articulation, as well as permanent four-wheel-drive, making the Defender a truly adept and more modern machine.
The interior saw some marked improvements too and a whole host of more modern engines was also offered, from a BMW straight-six and Rover and Jaguar V8s, to multiple inline four-cylinder turbo diesels.
Constantly developed throughout its life there's a Defender for most tastes, budgets and requirements, whether it be a 110 pickup with a V8 engine or a short wheel base 90 furnished with a Ford Duratorq four-pot, like this particular example.
Looking every bit the rugged off-roader in Aintree dark green paint with its twin headlamps and bull bar, this 2008 Land Rover Defender 90 XS SW SWB presents well and comes with full main dealer and specialist service history.
Inherently robust and competent in all things off road, it's also rather comfortable. Being the XS variant it comes complete with myriad interior and exterior improvements over a standard 90, including half-leather heated seats and electric windows. As far as Defenders go this eminently usable 90 covers all bases.
