Overview
The 80s and 90s was a fantastic time for those that enjoy lightweight, rev-happy and engaging hatchbacks that demanded full commitment, and few executed this recipe for fun as well as the Peugeot 205 GTI. Thanks to this, many cars were upgraded and modified in-period for both road and competition use, and subsequently, it’s now getting harder to find examples that retain their factory specification, with bonus points awarded for special edition models.
This particular 205 GTI ticks all the boxes, judging by the aforementioned criteria. It is one of just 300 Miami Blue 1.6 non-cat examples, remains in its factory specification, and is offered for sale from long-term 32-year ownership. Being a special edition ‘phase 1.5’ car, it was supplied from the factory with such luxuries as a full grey leather interior, sliding glass sunroof, electric windows and power-assisted steering - all the mod-cons here!
Having seemingly been stored off the road since 2006, this 205 GTI has been recommissioned and has a fresh advisory-free MOT. As such, it would make for a great usable hot hatch that has plenty of scope for aesthetic restoration to bring it back to its best - work that would be well-worth doing in our eyes, given the rarity of this ‘phase 1.5’ special edition.

Summary
In need of a little TLC to the bodywork and interior but supplied with a clean MOT and in reportedly good mechanical health with no known issues or foibles, this 1.6, non-cat ‘phase 1.5’ 205 GTI has a lot going for it, and would make for an excellent entry into light restoration, or a usable modern classic hot hatch that gives scope for tinkering and tarting-up on the weekend and on balmy summer evenings.
