Overview

For many, the GT3 RS is peak Porsche, especially for those that favour a more track-focussed, performance enhanced version of the perennially popular 911. As such, it regularly makes its way onto those top Porsche lists that seem to pop up every other week. Justifiably so, in our opinion, because the 911 GT3 – introduced in 2003 – is still going great guns today in its latest incarnation, the 992, and remains an iconic car in an already stellar line up. 

Beginning life as an homologation model (which has always been a litmus test for successful high performance road cars), the original 911 GT3 was a lightweight, stripped out version of the 996 with its wheels firmly pointed towards the nearest apex, characteristics that the RS, or Renn Sport model leaned even harder into.

But of all the GT3-badged 911s, many would argue that the later 997 found the perfect balance between outright performance, dynamic handling and honest-to-goodness analogue drive-ability and the RS version, again developed to go racing, truly is a weaponised track car for the road.

With its sublime 3.6-litre Mezger race engine that delivers 415bhp, if the car's performance doesn't rearrange your internal organs then the insane amount of grip will and it's this incredibly driver-focussed appeal that keeps the 997 GT3 RS featuring in those lists we mentioned earlier, as well as at race paddocks the world over.

Tastefully modified and in incredible condition throughout, it's a beautiful representation of the marque. • Tyres are all Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 which the vendor states are virtually new

• There are no obvious signs of corrosion

• The underneath is clean with no signs of damage and only some light oxidisation in places

Summary

The 997 GT3 RS is Porsche at its purest. Track focussed but more than happy out on the road it remains one of the sharpest cars money can buy. Forget your bells and whistles, your driver aids and any hand holding, driving this car is entirely down to you but when you get it right you'll feel like an absolute hero. One of the best to ever play the game and in this spec and condition you'll be hard pressed to find a better one.
