Overview

Some things feel like they were destined to end up together. What would Han Solo be without the Millennium Falcon? Would Arnie be where he is today without his role as the Terminator? And could we imagine Ian Fleming’s tuxedoed sociopath driving anything but an Aston Martin?

“Aha!” we hear some of you declare, “Actually he drove a Bentley originally!” Yes, we are aware. He also drove a rather sinky Lotus, a Sunbeam Alpine, Chevy Bel Air, Toyota 2000GT, (half of) a Renault 11, and a Jeep Wagoneer amongst many other vehicles. But the Aston badge is the one that sits most comfortably with Britain’s most famous spy (let’s not get into that particular oxymoron) and is definitely the one most associated with the brand. But why?

Maybe it’s because Aston have always designed vehicles that exude a certain kind of raffish, bespoke elegance with a shade of brutish power and surprising ability. Like those posh lads that seem so affable until you’re on the rugby pitch with them and realise they’re absolute head-kickers (Please talk about the car – Ed).

But we digress. While Mr Bond may never have parked his carefully tailored derriere in a V12 Vantage, we reckon it’s precisely the Aston he’d choose to drive. Stylish and slightly understated with muscular hints of what’s lurking under the bonnet, it’s the epitome of the classic British grand tourer. However, if you decide to mash the loud pedal into the thick carpet, what you’ll have on your hands is a proper swivel-eyed lunatic, all thunderous noise, surprising agility and furious pace.

That monstrous V12, so cleverly shoe-horned into the Vantage’s delicate proportions by Aston’s wizards, delivers a quite unnecessary yet most welcome 510bhp to the rear wheels. That’d keep the henchmen at bay.

This particular example is an absolute peach too. With just 10,414 miles on the clock and one owner from new, we think this may be the closest thing you’ll find to a box-fresh V12 Vantage this side of Aston’s Heritage collection. It’s quite beautifully specified and presented, with the added bonus of the highly desirable lightweight carbon-shell seats.

Make no mistake about it, if you’ve been on the hunt for one of these, this is the one you want. You’ll definitely be more “Dr Yes” than “Dr No”, and will always want to drive another day (What the hell are you doing – Ed). After all, you don’t live twice. So while the world may not be enough and the sky may fall, at least this diamond, which could be with you forever, should provide a quantum of solace.

• Lovely black leather upholstery to the dash, door cards and seats, with white contrast stitching – all appears to be in excellent condition, with no obvious damage or notable wear

• The door cards and seats also features Alcantara panels, that show hardly any evidence of wear, and no damage or marking we could see

• Electrically adjustable seats with 3-position memory function for both the driver and the passenger

• The seats are the sought-after factory option lightweight items, which benefit from carbon shells

• Black carpets and over-mats, which show very little wear and no damage, threading or staining

• Electrically operated side windows and door mirrors

• Dark grey Alcantara headlining, which looks to be in fine fettle, with no sagging, damage or staining on show

Exterior

• Handsome dark grey metallic paintwork perfectly shows off the car’s proportions and curves, without looking ostentatious

• The paintwork is in exceptionally good condition for its age, with no notable marks, scuffs or significant blemishes to note

• Similarly, the bodywork appears to be unmarked and in near pristine condition – we could discern no damage, misalignment or corrosion on any of the panels

• All of the light clusters are clean, clear and appear to be free from misting, cracks or UV damage

• The external trim and badging all looks to be complete and in good order, with nothing missing and no damage we could discern

• The rear valance, front splitter and bonnet vents are all made from carbon fibre and add a subtle motorsport vibe to the car’s aesthetic

• We’re told by the vendor that, since the photoshoot, the front splitter has been lightly damaged, but they tell us that they will replace this before sale

• Underneath, the car looks to be very clean and straight, with no damage or corrosion we could see on the floor pans or sills, and all of the undertrays neatly in position

• The alloy wheels are the correct factory-fitted 19-inch items, featuring a smart polished finish – all are in excellent condition, and the vendor has had new OEM centre caps fitted to freshen them up

• A matched set of Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres are fitted (255/35 front, 295/30 rear) and all appear to be good tread depth and no sidewall damage we could identify

Summary

Simply stunning. That’s the only way we can describe this gorgeous car. A sublime example, it’s very nearly box-fresh, and benefits from what is (in our eyes) a near perfect specification.

For anyone who’d like to park a V12 Vantage in their garage – and as you’re people of taste and distinction, we’ll assume that’s all of you – this car issues the kind of siren call that’s simply impossible to ignore.

Just remember, when you’re ensconced in that magnificent Alcantara and leather upholstery, V12 thrumming and city lights streaming by, you do not have a licence to kill. Yes, even if that clown in the battered Prius cuts you up on an island while messing with their mobile.
