Overview
Back in 2012 things had gotten a little, how shall we say, stale when it came to engaging and affordable sports cars, but then Toyota unleashed the GT86, quite unexpectedly but to rapturous applause from critics and the motoring public alike.
Lauded for its old school rear-wheel drive handling and lively 197bhp, 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine the GT86 was an instant hit, proving that there was still more to life than boring SUVs and hybrid econoboxes.
Here was an affordable, rev-happy sports car with a manual gearbox and 50:50 weight distribution that was an absolute hoot to drive, characteristics that are still sought after today by true petrolheads. Sharing a platform with the incredibly similar Subaru BRZ, the Toyota GT86 coupe does a lot of things right and remains a proper driver's car. Add in excellent reliability and decent practicality and the GT86 starts to make a lot of sense.
This early, 2012 example possesses all of those wonderful characteristics we've just mentioned but with the added performance upgrade of a Tuning Developments after market turbo and exhaust system, which means a serious hike in power for those that thought the original output wasn't quite enough. Tuning Developments claim that the kit can increase power and torque by 50% and 45% respectively and the dyno printout for this particular car shows a peak power figure of 284bhp.
The exterior remains tastefully standard and the car presents well throughout but open the bonnet and you're greeted with a whopping great turbo so if you're after a more performance-oriented version of an already stellar car then this could very well be the GT86 for you.

Summary
The Toyota GT86 is a good car but it's a car crying out for a little bit more oomph which is exactly what the Tuning development kit offers on this particular example. Make no mistake though, this isn't just a bunch of bolt on parts bought on eBay. This is a professionally developed and installed performance upgrade that takes advantage of the car's impressive chassis and driving dynamics, creating something just that little bit more exciting to pilot, and it's a match made in heaven if you ask us.
