Overview

A bastion of British automotive engineering and one of the last vestiges of this country's ability to actually build cars, TVR has been flying the flag for home-grown sportsters since 1958 when Trevor Wilkinson and co. unleashed the Grantura into the wild.

Fast forward to today however and it's not exactly sunshine and rainbows. Whilst technically still a live brand TVR hasn't produced anything since the Sagaris back in 2006, but what they have given us over the years is a wonderfully eclectic collection of truly excellent sports cars, with the Tuscan Speed Six being a particular highlight.

Produced from 1999 to 2006 the Tuscan, named as an homage to the original Tuscan of the '60s, is a front mid-engined, rear-wheel drive two-seater sports car powered by TVR's very own and highly revered 'Speed Six' six-cylinder engine in varying displacements and power outputs.

This particular 2001 example began life with the 4.0-litre variant but the engine has since been swapped out in 2005 for a 2004 3.6-litre T350 Speed Six producing 350bhp. Not only that but the car also benefits from an interior refresh with new seats, door cards and carpets having been fitted, according to the vendor. Externally the car screams TVR with its wild green 'Verde Mistral' colour scheme and the car presents well throughout.

The Tuscan comes complete with impressive service and maintenance history and is reported to be driving well with no mechanical issues and the vendor informs us that £2,000 has recently been spent on the car.

Summary

The future of TVR is uncertain and we can only hope that it will continue to make cars at some point but what we do know is that the cars the company has given us, including the Tuscan Speed Six, are nothing short of sublime. Unafraid to do things a little differently and to tread its own path, TVR could never be labelled as dull and the Tuscan Speed Six embodies everything that's great about the brand. Unique, exciting and truly special it remains an excellent example of what can be achieved when a singular vision is championed and this particular car is certainly proof of that.
