Overview

Nostalgia can be a powerful thing, especially where great cars are concerned, and we think it's pretty universally accepted that Nissan's historical line-up of Z cars falls into that category. Whether under the Datsun moniker or the later Nissan nameplate, machines like the 240Z, 300ZX and later 350Z and 370Z have managed to stir the soul over generations in a way that many other manufacturers have found difficult to emulate. And while those feelings of wistful longing for such cars is certainly strong, there is a model that perfectly encapsulates and embodies them in a powerful and sleek modern package: the Nissan Z.

A perfectly penned love letter to those aforementioned Z cars, the Nissan Z, or 400Z as it is sometimes known due to its 400bhp output, was introduced in 2022 and is the latest in a long and distinguished line of rear-wheel drive performance coupes from Nissan that harks back to the good ol' Datsun days.

Based upon the previous 370Z's architecture the Nissan Z was an evolution of said platform and almost completely redesigned. Featuring Nissan's VR30DDTT 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, performance was always going to be a selling point alongside the car's svelte aesthetic and with 400bhp the Z can get from 0 to 60mph in around four-and-a-half seconds.

There is a fly in the ointment though: sadly, Nissan decided not to bring this model to the UK. But if we’ve whetted your appetite, happily we have one that has been brought to our shores.

This particular model is an early 2022 'Proto' spec car with a six-speed manual gearbox and is incredibly rare, as only 240 were ever built. These special launch editions featured gold 19” wheels and a striking Ikazuchi Yellow TriCoat paint job with yellow calipers. The interior also featured complimentary yellow highlights in addition to all of the usual bells and whistles such as heated seats, cruise control, reversing camera and Nissan's trick rev-matching system for smooth as silk shifting.

Imported from Japan earlier this year and tastefully modified with an aftermarket exhaust, uprated brake discs and pads, an adjustable Eibach rear anti-roll bar and an ECU remap and tune by specialists Abbey Motorsport, this Z car is certainly a head turner with the performance to match its striking looks and incredible level of exclusivity.

Summary

What we have here is a stunning, modern homage to those beloved Z-cars of old that retains the inherent drive-ability and engaging characteristics that made those machines so popular. It's a powerful and incredibly rare slice of Nissan's rich automotive legacy that due to its limited use is practically still brand new.

Don't think that the car's exclusivity makes it a pig to live with though. Far from it. Sharing many parts with the earlier 370Z servicing and maintenance remains a doddle and the vendor states the only reason for sale is due to a recent loss of space, so if you're after a cracking performance Z-car that gets A LOT of praise and attention then look no further.
