Overview

Blending Land Rover ruggedness with a far more refined, luxurious driving experience, the Range Rover (or Range Rover Classic as we now know it) took the legendary Green Oval into the upper echelons of society for the first time, firmly cementing itself as the choice for those who like their city cars with a little rugged edge, ideal for use on both the daily commute and a run up to (and around) the family estate at the weekend.

This Range Rover might have lost some of its upper-class edge, but whilst it may have lost some ‘posh points’ (though it is still an LSE, don’t you know) it has gained in all-conquering off-roading abilities, not to mention having had a grin-inducing, all-american Chevrolet LSA supercharged V8 installed under the bonnet.

Built by Les Richmond Automotive in Australia, this example is the sole LSA powered Fire Storm Range Rover conversion, making it somewhat of a unicorn. With a specification list that would rival far more hardcore-looking machinery yet retaining an impressive level of interior refinement (when the exhaust valves are closed, that is) this Range Rover Classic LSE is a one-off behemoth of a machine, aptly nicknamed ‘The Beast’ by both the owner and Devon 4x4, who have looked after the car for a number of years.

If you’ve been considering an overland expedition, or just want to live out your childhood dreams of owning and driving a Tonka truck, then you’re going to love this one…

History and documentation

  • Registered 01 Jan 1993

  • First registered in the UK 01 Feb 2021

  • Looked after by Devon 4x4 when in the care of both the current and former keeper

  • ‘The Beast’ (as it is known) came into the care of the seller following the passing of the former owner, and the seller notes that the vast majority of paperwork for the vehicle is still tied up in the former owner’s estate

  • The only Storm Series Range Rover build with an LSA engine

  • Full conversion, upgrades and restoration carried out by Les Richmond Automotive (LRA) of Australia

  • A full chassis overhaul was carried out as part of the Storm Series conversion, including full undersealing for longevity, strengthening of the suspension mounting points, and adjustment of the rear mounting points to allow for taller suspension

  • Fixed anti-roll bars for improved road handling

  • Full body restoration, finished in BMW Carbon Black

  • Two keys

  • Current MOT expires 26 Feb 2026 with advisories for a corroded exhaust and all 4 tyres perishing

  • The exhaust system was replaced following the MOT, with a full 3” handcrafted stainless steel item, with a valved rear section

  • V5 present in owner’s name

  • HPI clear

Interior

  • Custom restored and re-trimmed interior with Fire Storm detailing

  • Pioneer headunit with DAB, Apple CarPlay and reversing camera

  • Blackvue cameras front and rear

  • The cabin retains the majority of its original Range Rover features, including the dashboard, steering wheel, wooden inlays and more

  • Custom switch panel, including air locking for both differentials, a feature to switch off fans for river crossings and for switching fuel tanks

  • USB charging points front and rear

  • Bluetooth winch control

  • CB radio

  • The interior is in very good condition throughout, and retains a lot of its original Range Rover charm

  • We note some patination to the armrests and high-traffic areas

  • The headlining wears a few small stains and blemishes

  • The door cards and door inner panels show some more visible wear

  • Full rear load area build with fridge, extensive storage for off-roading gear and supplies, and an on-board battery system fed via roof-mounted solar panels, including jump-start feature

  • We note some corrosion visible on the lower edge of the upper tailgate

  • Overall, a very smart interior that boasts a number of thoughtful upgrades without sacrificing its original character

  • No reported faults or issues

Exterior

  • Full exterior restoration in Australia, finished in BMW Carbon Black

  • 3M PPF wrap

  • 2x Laser light bars

  • 2” receiver tow bar

  • Tube bull bar and rear LRA step

  • Swing-away spare wheel carrier

  • Drifa 720-degree batwing awning

  • The front end shows the usual ‘signs of life’ as you’d expect on an off-road adventure vehicle with a few imperfections and blemishes

  • We note that the PPF is peeling away in a few areas, notably on the offside front wheel arch, nearside front arch, and offside rear arch, as well as on the edges of the doors

  • There is a dent on the bonnet, and another more prominent dent on the driver’s door

  • The tinting on the side windows is bubbling/beginning to peel in a number of places

  • Scuffs are visible on the nearside mirror casing

  • The front steering guard is showing some signs of corrosion

  • Custom 16x10 ET-25 Eagle Series 102 alloy wheels, wrapped in BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tyres

  • The wheels themselves present well, but the polished barrels and hardware are showing their age and have dulled over time

  • The latest MoT noted that the tyres are perishing, and would benefit from being replaced

  • Overall, an imposing and highly modified example of the classic long-wheelbase Range Rover that presents in very good order, especially when its ethos and intentions are taken into consideration

  • Full service and gearbox rebuild less than 3,000 miles ago, including differential and engine oils replaced with Millers competition items

  • Incredible sound matched with impressive performance and almost unmatched off-road capabilities

  • No reported mechanical faults or issues

Summary

The much-used term ‘find another’ isn’t applicable for this listing, simply because there is, in fact, not another to find. This is the sole LSA-powered Storm Series conversion carried out by LRA, and as such, will out-gun almost any other overlanding rig on the road today.

Equipped for almost all situations and yet boasting performance that rivals thoroughbred sports cars (and with a hilarious, laugh-inducing soundtrack to boot) this Range Rover Classic LSE would make for a fantastic long-distance adventure companion, or a wonderful car to take on all-comers in a game of pub Top Trumps alike.
