Overview

The DC2 Integra was Honda’s first official UK Type R model, and we can scarcely imagine what people were thinking as the first cars hit our shores; here you had a car that was pared-back with a few optional extras, peak power delivery at over 7,000rpm and striking red Recaro seats! To say it was a contrast to the sort of cars we were used to seeing at the tail end of the 1990s would be an understatement.

These days ‘driver focused’ can be somewhat of a throwaway term - and with good reason: if you have fewer than 3 screens and an army of haptic feedback buttons in a modern car, it’s termed ‘driver focused’ compared to the majority of new cars - but the DC2 really was properly designed with the keen driver in mind. Thrills be damned, this was a car for those that loved driving, with a B18 inline-four VTEC engine that really had to be wrung out to make the most of it, but that’s all part of the appeal.

This particular example is an early UK car, registered in 1998. For our seller, the DC2 has always been a dream car, and this example has been in his care for around 11 years, after being a self-confessed Honda enthusiast from a young age. Having been with him through university, moving away for work, getting married and having two children, the time has sadly come for this four-wheeled family member to move on to pastures new.

Having been lavished with attention in recent years including a full respray, new rear arches and sills, new rear ABS sensors and more, this DC2 is ready to grab by the scruff of the neck and throw around some choice B-Roads, exactly as Honda intended.

Interior

  • Classic black / red interior (Type X) which presents fantastically and has stood the test of time well

  • The seller notes that he has swapped around the front seats part-way through his ownership to even out the bolster wear

  • As a result, both outer bolsters look lightly creased / worn, but significantly less than would be expected on a car of this age and mileage; the vendor tells us that the creases can be wiped away

  • The high-traffic areas such as the shifter, steering wheel and door cards only show some very light signs of use

  • The aftermarket Type R over-mats are a little worn and dirtied

  • Original (OE) floor mats included in the sale, but the seller notes that they are slightly worn from age

  • Aftermarket Alpine stereo

  • Chassis plaque on centre console

  • The rear seats are lightly used, but in very good overall condition

  • In the rear, the boot is clean and tidy with no staining or heavy wear noted

  • A fresh set of Mugen aftermarket pedals is included in the sale

  • The seller notes that the central locking system is occasionally sticky and requires attention, but there are otherwise no reported faults

Exterior

  • Classic Championship White paintwork

  • The rear arches and sills have been replaced with Aaran Jessops Restoration panels (templated from original vehicles)

  • Full respray in iconic Championship White carried out during the aforementioned arch works

  • The seller notes a small rust spot on the bonnet, and another on the offside lower rear wing ahead of the rear wheel

  • We note some heat staining around the exhaust tip

  • Being very particular, we’d suggest the rear ‘Honda’ badge requires some attention, as it has not been affixed perfectly straight; a new badge is included in the sale

  • All four wheels have been recently refurbished and present very well, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres

  • The underside is reported to be in good condition with no concerns, and nothing noted on the recent MoT exam

  • We’re told that the seller rust-treated the underside in 2014

  • Overall, an incredibly well-kept example of the modern-classic Japanese icon

Mechanical

  • 1,797cc inline-four engine with VTEC producing 190bhp @7,900rpm

  • Five-speed manual gearbox, sending power to the front wheels through a helical limited-slip differential

  • Upgraded DS2500 brake pads

  • Fujitsubo RM10A cat-back exhaust system, with JDM Integra catalytic converter

  • The seller notes that the windscreen washer pump has developed a fault, and that some of the suspension bushes are beginning to show their age due to being original, though there are no knocks/bangs or noises

  • Other than the above, this DC2 is reported to be in good health, with no strange behaviours, no smoke and no gearbox or VTEC issues

  • Under the bonnet, we can see some heat patination on the exhaust manifold and some other typical heat/fluid stains, but nothing that appears to be cause for concern

  • General patination/age-related corrosion to fixtures and fittings

  • No reported mechanical faults other than the aforementioned items above

Summary

A long-time hero car for our seller, this DC2 has been in his ownership for around 11 years, and has evidently been cherished for every single one of those years, with recent refresh works including a respray ensuring that this DC2 still looks sublime, and we’re certain it’ll attract plenty of attention wherever you take it.
