Overview
There’s nothing quite like an estate car with a proper big V8 under the bonnet to pique the interest of any self-respecting PHer. And this particular chap had his interest piqued even further when he entered — and won — the PistonHeads Powerslide challenge. Truly the Nobel Prize of the motoring world. After his glorious victory, he set out to acquire his own AMG Mercedes, and decided on this, one of the last rear-wheel drive W212 models, a choice we can heartily commend.
The 5.5-litre V8 engine wakes up with a snarl, and proves that its bark is just as impressive as its bite when you press your right foot carpetwards. That power is sent to the rear wheels via a limited-slip diff, which means you can have plenty of tail-wagging fun without losing power in the corners when it counts.
Finished to a very high specification throughout, this S comes with carbon fibre wing mirror covers, red brake callipers, and contrasting seatbelts. The top item on the vendor’s list when he was purchasing this car was its Active Dynamic seats, which cleverly provide active lateral support when you need it in the corners
And to top it all off, it has an enormous amount of load lugging capacity, an extensive service record from Mercedes-Benz, and a set of winter tyres are fitted , allowing you to keep enjoying the car’s 577 bhp as it gets colder.

Summary
Clearly this Mercedes has been well looked after, with an impressive number of invoices for servicing. It remains very smartly presented throughout and could easily be mistaken for a much newer car. It’ll be just as happy when chewing up miles on the motorway as it will be when exploring the limits of that limited-slip diff on a sinuous B-road. As all-rounders go, this is perhaps one of the roundest of them all.
