Overview
Most people think of James Bond as an Aston Martin kinda guy, but in 2013 he brought New York City to a standstill in one of the most dramatic automotive marketing stunts ever played out.
Driving the car via a live web broadcast from Manhattan Docks into the centre of the island’s main district, where a road and theatre were closed off for the new car’s launch, Bond actor Daniel Craig hand-delivered the car into the masses of thronging paparazzi, before stepping out of it, not saying a word, and disappearing again.
The Bond-themed reveal, in which Craig is rumoured to have been paid £1m for his 10-minute appearance, went viral globally, and the second-generation Range Rover Sport had well-and-truly arrived, dominating the media for days afterwards. Expensive it may have been, but it was a masterful piece of marketing.
The ‘L494’ Sport was a highly desirable machine, echoing the design direction that produced the styling of the smaller Evoque, and introducing new Dynamic Response suspension with active anti-roll bars, as well as a lighter, stiffer monocoque construction – answering criticisms that its Discovery 3-based predecessor was too heavy.
The Range Rover Sport’s appeal lies in its ability to be almost as luxurious as a “full-fat” Range Rover, but with more dynamic ability, lower running costs and a smaller footprint. But make no mistake – it’s still a substantial car. It lasted until 2022 in its second-generation form, too, so it’s still seen as quite current, which is reflected in strong pricing.
This one is one of the most upmarket options – an Autobiography specification with the twin-turbo 3.0-litre SDV6 engine, it’s quick, refined and surprisingly agile, whilst also dripping with standard equipment and maintaining sensible running costs.

Summary
If you want to feel like a king of the road, then this is a rather grand way of achieving such a status.
It would have cost its original owner over £84,000 and is a fabulously equipped car, which can now be yours for a fraction of that original cost. It comes with a great maintenance history, passed its last MOT with no advisories and has covered well below average mileage, making it one of the most appealing Sports on the market right now – one that you will thoroughly enjoy owning. An imposing and impressive machine, in excellent condition throughout.
