Overview
SUVs have been around for donkey's years and it's a tried and tested formula that remains incredibly popular today, so when Land Rover announced the Range Rover Sport back in 2005 it didn't come as that much of a surprise. After all, the original Range Rover could very well be considered a sports utility vehicle in its own right, but what was the “Sport” model going to bring to the table?
Well, quite a lot as it turns out. Built upon the Discovery's chassis, the first gen Range Rover Sport came as a capable machine right out of the gate. As an answer to Porsche's Cayenne, the new Rangey certainly looked the part with its lower, sportier aesthetic and was offered with a host of engines, including a 503bhp, 5.0-litre supercharged V8. Sporty by nature as well as by name then.
Not everyone was convinced, however, with some deriding the original model for a lack of sophistication but we needn't have worried because the second generation Range Rover Sport, unveiled in 2013, put any and all doubts firmly to bed.
Sharing its underpinnings with the contemporary, “full fat” Range Rover, the new Sport model was a brand new car and way more advanced than its predecessor. Not only did it come fully loaded with all of the luxury bells and whistles one would expect, but the range of engines was still all-encompassing, offering more than enough performance whilst maintaining excellent ride quality meaning that the second coming of the Range Rover Sport presented as a real “do anything” machine.
From school runs and towing trips to cross continental jaunts and everything in between the Range Rover Sport is a seriously capable and indeed versatile offering and this particular 2016 model is no exception. In excellent condition both inside and out the car has clearly been well-maintained and comes equipped with the proficient 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine but remapped to offer a more respectable and more fuel efficient 360bhp as reported by the vendor.
HPI clear and with just two former keepers the car's history is impressive and is backed up by various invoices and receipts with the vendor informing us that it drives very well and everything works as it should. Being the Autobiography edition the car comes complete with a luxurious interior, Pixel LED headlights, and a sliding panoramic roof in addition to the usual bits and bobs.
