Overview

Introduced in 2009, the Focus RS Mk 2 was boldly styled and brimming with character, thanks in no small part to its punchy 2.5-litre turbocharged engine, with five cylinders and an associated warbly soundtrack. In standard form, it put out 300bhp, with forced induction via a Borg Warner K16 turbo.  

That was enough to get it from 0-60mph in a supercar-baiting (for the time) 5.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 163mph – all from a compact Ford hatchback. 

Yet it wasn’t as much of a handful as the figures suggest – far from it, in fact. Torque-steer was kept in check via Ford’s clever ‘RevoKnuckle’ front suspension, while a revised version of the Mark 1 RS’s Quaife limited-slip differential meant it put the power in the right place. It was developed in conjunction with the engineers behind Ford’s World Rally Championship team – and it showed.

This particular example is a 2010 Focus RS finished in rally car white with OZ-style alloy wheels, so it looks like it’s ready for the special stages. It had been with its current owner for nine years, during which it has passed every single MOT test with no advisories. It has been well loved during that time and 25,000 miles, and has seen a few subtle mods including a Cobra stainless steel exhaust and Stage 2 Revo tuning, plus convenience features such as an Android/CarPlay head unit.  

Now very much a modern classic, this is a great example of a well-cared-for RS Mk 2, in a great colour and with an impressive history file.

Summary 

The Mk 2 Focus is one the cars that deserves its place in RS folklore and you only have to look at how previous fast Fords have performed in the market to see its investment potential, especially for a well-sorted and carefully looked-after car like this one. 

But in our opinion, it’s too much fun to just squirrel away in a garage somewhere – with astonishing performance even in standard tune, and with the extra potency of a Stage 2 tune and a fruity exhaust system, this car offers terrific fun that’s every bit in line with the PistonHeads ethos.
