Overview
Some cars are built to be daily workhorses. Others are built to make ordinary days feel extraordinary. The Honda S2000 has always belonged firmly in the latter camp. It’s a car you reach for when the sky clears, the roads beckon, and you want to be reminded what driving is actually about.
Honda's two-seater roadster arrived in 1999 powered by what was then the most powerful naturally aspirated engine on a power-per-litre basis: the F20C, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder DOHC VTEC unit producing 240bhp and capable of screaming to a 9,000rpm redline. Mated to a precise six-speed manual gearbox and a Torsen limited-slip differential, and mounted in a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive chassis with double wishbone suspension, it was, and remains, a masterclass in analogue sports car design.
By 2004, the S2000 had received a series of meaningful refinements. Chassis bracing was strengthened, suspension was retuned, the steering ratio was recalibrated, and 17-inch alloy wheels were fitted. Paired with the glass rear screen introduced from 2002, the 2004 model year represented a thoroughly accomplished package. All UK-market S2000s retained the original 2.0-litre F20C engine with its intoxicating VTEC powerband.
This particular 2004 example, finished in Formula Red over black leather, has spent the last sixteen years with a single dedicated owner. And that owner had a simple philosophy: this was a sunshine car. Brought out for the good days, driven with enthusiasm but respect, and put away properly when the weather turned. The mileage tells the story — roughly 1,700 miles per year on average, accumulated through sixteen summers of careful enjoyment rather than long periods of neglect.
Its condition reflects the careful ownership and the vendor describes the sale as a reluctant one. After sixteen years of sunshine motoring, this S2000 is being offered in lovely, ready-to-enjoy condition and, as such, is a very tempting prospect for anyone in the market for something to enjoy the sunnier months in.
