Overview
There are few car manufacturers that have managed to keep the same inherent design language over the course of their existence. To be able to maintain the very DNA that makes their cars so recognisably iconic. Porsche has managed it with the 911 but perhaps the most renowned and indeed distinguished of this small but esteemed bunch is Morgan.
Initially finding recognition for its 3 wheelers Morgan would progress into more conventional carriages with the 4/4 way back in 1936 and continues to prove itself time and again as a major player. You just have to look at its contemporary Midsummer and Supersport models to understand what we mean. Here are two modern Morgans that are instantly recognisable as such and it's that charming familiarity that's part of what makes any car from the company's impressive oeuvre so appealing.
Another prime example is the excellent Morgan Aero 8, produced between 2000 and 2018. Here was a modern sports car that was quintessentially Morgan in the way it was designed but bang up to date with how it was developed. Lauded as Morgan's first supercar the Aero 8 came with some really rather impressive performance credentials. Featuring a bespoke aluminium chassis and fully independent suspension the Aero 8 was powered by a 4.4-litre BMW V8 that produced 286bhp. In a car that weighed just 1,100kg that meant a sub-five second 0-60mph time.
The Aero 8 would see numerous updates and improvements over the course of its eight year run with the latest and arguably greatest Series 4 and 5 cars ending up with a 4.8-litre V8 (again from BMW), this time with 362bhp, making them the most powerful of the bunch and therefore the quickest. Numerous design tweaks were also implemented and these later models remain impressive and sought after second hand buys.
This particular low mileage Morgan Aero 8 is a 2010 model, making it a Series 4 with all of the improvements over earlier cars that that entails, and is fitted with the six-speed manual gearbox making it a more engaging drive over the ZF auto-equipped cars. Presenting beautifully in an Aston Martin Almond Green over tan Yarwood Kensington Brecon leather colourway this Aero 8 certainly looks the business. It's a similar story under the bonnet, too, because the car comes complete with a recent full service and a clean bill of health in the form of a long, advisory-free MOT until December. Clearly cherished this stunning supercar may look classically traditional but go for a spirited drive and you'll quickly realise it's anything but.

Summary
With a nod to the past but with its wheels well and truly planted in the present the Morgan Aero 8 is a rare, hand-built convertible British supercar with a bespoke aluminium chassis that still cuts quite the dash. And dash is an appropriate word in more ways than one, considering just how quickly the Aero 8 can ferry its occupants thanks to that modern BMW V8 under the bonnet. This car not only looks splendid in the charming way only a Morgan can but thanks to that recent service and long MOT it seems to tick all the right boxes mechanically too. As far as charming yet brutally fast and eminently exciting two seater roadsters go you could do a hell of a lot worse than this rather lovely Morgan Aero 8.
