Overview

Introduced at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show, the Continental GT was the first Bentley to be developed entirely by VW Group and away from Rolls-Royce. It also very quickly became its fastest-ever seller, due in no small part to it being mass produced in the company’s Crewe factory as opposed to being hand-built like its predecessors.

It had a lot of parts commonality with other VW Group cars – the four-wheel-drive platform was derived from that of the VW Phaeton luxury saloon, while under the bonnet it got the German firm’s innovative 6.0-litre W12 engine, which in the GT came with twin turbochargers giving it 552bhp (at launch) and a top speed of 196mph – a hugely powerful GT, ideal for transcontinental blasts.

It was a massively impactful car, both due to its imposing size and also its astonishing performance, while it was also as opulent as Bentley owners were used to. Its appeal went beyond the traditional, too, bringing Bentley ownership to a newer and more youthful customer base, helped in no small part by David and Victoria Beckham becoming some of the first customers.

In 2010, the GT saw its first significant redesign, ushering in a range of new models – developed off the same platform, but with a new, sleeker profile, bolder rear arches, new front end and revised rear styling.

But it was inside where things developed most, with an exquisite new cabin and even higher end materials – matched by an equally haughty price tag. A choice of V8 and W12 engines were offered, with the latter starting at an astonishing £150,500 – but then with 12 cylinders and (by this stage) almost 600bhp, we PHers will happily let it off…

After all, that price tag was met by this car’s one and only previous owner, who has covered just over 7,000 miles in the car since it was first registered. Finding another with such astonishing provenance won’t be easy, but if you want the closest thing you can find to a good-as-new Continental GT without spending £150k for the privilege, then this incredible car has to be one of the very best currently available.

Summary

This is an astonishing example of Bentley’s brutish grand tourer, finished in a fabulous colour and with an incredible specification.

With just a handful of miles on the clock and presented in almost flawless condition throughout, it has to be one of the most impressive examples on the market right now – a hugely desirable car that will make its new owner very happy, for a fraction of the original list price.
