Overview

Turbocharging a Mazda MX-5 is a good idea, but supercharging a Mazda MX-5 is a brilliant one. Thankfully both options have been made readily and easily available by leading MX-5 tuning specialists BBR GTi and the results are nothing short of fantastic. Either is a big win in terms of enhancements but if you were to opt for the latter, as is the case with this particular 2010 third generation NC Sport Tech example, then you're in for quite the hike in performance.

With decades of racing and tuning expertise under its belt BBR GTi have taken this already accomplished and inherently capable two-seater sports car and shot its potential into outer space, furnishing the car with dyno-proven 300bhp thanks to the aforementioned blower. Officially termed the “BBR GTI Stage 2 Supercharger Kit” the package comes professionally installed with all of the supporting modifications. With thousands spent it's clear to see the quality of the parts and installation and the car has subsequently been transformed into a bit of a monster.

That's not to say the drive-ability has been compromised though. Far from it. Despite numerous other mechanical upgrades, including suspension, braking and clutch work, not to mention interior and exterior styling tweaks, the car's inherent characteristics have been fully retained. The NC's smooth, linear power delivery is still there, such is the beauty of the BBR kit, ensuring this roadster is still an absolute joy to pilot without becoming too unwieldy, meaning it's happy both on the road and at the track.

Having covered just under 63K miles from new the car remains in great condition throughout and benefits from some recent interior tweaks, including the addition of a modern Android head unit, retrimmed steering wheel and gear shift gaiter, plus a new gear knob.
