Overview

Despite being very much geared towards track use, owning and driving a Caterham Seven is not just the reserve of circuit junkies. Should you wish, if you have the right wet weather gear, you can very much drive one of these truly excellent cars all year round, as has been proven with this particular 2017 factory built 360S SV.

Granted, some models and builds will be harder to live with. Earlier, less refined incarnations, for example, and perhaps cars like the full fat 420R Race Package, but pick the right one and it becomes a far more agreeable proposition. And drive them on the regular you should because getting behind the wheel of a thoroughbred driver's car like the Caterham Seven can brighten the mood on any given day of the week, regardless of conditions or location.

This Caterham Seven 360S SV makes sense for numerous reasons. It's the SV so that means a wider, longer chassis offering increased interior space and comfort. It's equipped with the 180bhp, 2.0-litre Ford Duratec four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox offering plenty of usable, refined power. It has a road suspension setup so while the handling remains dialled, the ride won't be too harsh and on top of all that it comes complete with shower cap, half-hood and a full roof meaning it really can be enjoyed in all conditions.

Presenting well overall in a suitably sporty white exterior with orange stripes the car also has a lowered floor for even extra room, as well as a carbon dashboard, four-point harnesses, Momo steering wheel with quick release and push button start. Make no mistake, this isn't a garage queen or show pony. This car has been used regularly and as such carries with it a few marks commensurate with its age and mileage. We’d love to think that the next owner will exploit its usability and continue to drive it as often as the seller did but we’d understand if you want to keep it for high days and holidays as it’s a very special and capable car.

Summary

This Caterham Seven 360S SV presents as an inherently usable example that would make a perfect fast road or track day car for those wanting to actually drive a Seven rather than merely own one. Being a larger chassis model with decent wet weather gear makes it a versatile beast too and there's plenty of scope for upgrades should you wish to go down the modification route. Overall its a solid car that should continue to be enjoyed on the regular.
