Overview
There's something special about arriving at a party just as it's ending — you catch the best moments before the lights come on. The 1994 Ford Mustang GT represents exactly that: the final chapter of an automotive legend before everything changed.
For PHers of a certain vintage, the pushrod 5.0-litre V8 needs no introduction. It soundtracked a generation of American performance, becoming perhaps one of the most celebrated engines ever fitted to a muscle car. From the Fox-body Mustangs that dominated the '80s and early '90s, through countless drag strips and Friday night cruises, the 5.0 built a reputation that transcended mere transportation. And for just two model years, 1994 and 1995, Ford dropped this legendary motor into the all-new SN95 platform, creating what many regard as a landmark moment in the Mustang story.
The SN95, launched for 1994, brought a substantially revised chassis to the table. The wheelbase grew by nearly two inches, while front and rear track stretched over three and a half inches wider. MacPherson struts, longer control arms, progressive-rate springs and properly sized anti-roll bars gave the GT a broad, planted stance. Four-wheel disc brakes were standard across the GT range. The body was stiffer too, with reinforced joints, larger rocker panels and additional bracing throughout. It was positioned as a capable, characterful chassis in every respect.
Under that swooping power-dome bonnet sat the familiar “High Output” 302, rated at 215bhp and a healthy 285 lb ft of torque. The roller-cam valvetrain, tuned stainless-steel tubular headers and dual exhaust all remained, while EEC-V engine management added a layer of refinement without diluting the car's character. For 1996, Ford would switch to the overhead-cam modular V8 — a fine engine in its own right, but a fundamentally different beast. The '94 and '95 GTs thus remain the only way to experience the pushrod legend in Ford's most advanced Fox-derived platform.
This particular example came to the UK and has been in current ownership since June 2019. Finished in its original red with a full black leather interior — an optional upgrade that elevates the cabin — it presents as an honest, well-maintained driver rather than a garage queen. The SVT-style five-spoke alloys suit the car's purposeful stance, while aftermarket projector headlights with halo rings modernise the front end. A body-colour rear spoiler completes the GT look.
Previous owners have obviously been enthusiasts. A BBK Performance cold air intake feeds the V8, while a strut tower brace adds chassis rigidity. The cooling system has received proactive attention including a replacement radiator and upgraded silicone hoses, which make for sensible additions for any classic being actively enjoyed. A Thatcham-approved Sigma M800 T2 security system was professionally installed in August 2012. The most recent service invoice (dated 29th November) includes fresh spark plugs, engine oil and transmission fluid.
The car benefits from a reported 2020 respray in the original red, though some stone chips to the leading edge of the bonnet confirm this Mustang's been driven as intended rather than merely polished. Also included is a useful spares package comprising aftermarket Spec-D projector headlights and various original lighting components — handy for anyone wanting to personalise or maintain the car going forward.

Summary
Among '90s performance cars now attracting growing appreciation, the SN95 Mustang GT stands apart. It pairs the iconic 5.0-litre pushrod V8 — arguably one of the most celebrated engines in American motoring — with a wide-track, four-wheel disc-braked chassis and the kind of mechanical simplicity that invites you to crack open a spanner as readily as crack open the throttle. These are the cars that carry the full weight of Fox-body aftermarket support, making them as rewarding to tinker with as they are to drive.
This red coupe is an honest example that wears its miles well. Some thoughtful upgrades, recent servicing and a spares package make it a car to drive and enjoy, exactly as intended. And that 5.0 rumble? You don't forget it in a hurry.
