Overview
If ever a car defined what BMW's M Division does best, it's the E46 M3. Launched in 2000 and produced until 2006, the third-generation M3 struck a near-perfect balance of performance, usability and outright desirability. Under the bonnet sat the S54 3.2-litre straight-six which was a naturally aspirated masterpiece featuring individual throttle bodies, BMW's double-VANOS variable valve timing and a 343bhp output that remains impressive today. Allied to a six-speed manual gearbox, a limited-slip differential and a chassis renowned for its precision, the E46 delivered an analogue driving experience that, let’s face it, most modern machinery struggles to replicate. Compact by contemporary standards yet spacious enough for genuine everyday use, it looked the part too, with subtly flared arches and a stance that still turns heads two decades on.
What sets this particular 2004 coupe apart is continuity. It has resided with a single, knowledgeable owner for nearly 19 years. During that time, the car's been maintained with a proactive, rather than reactive, philosophy: the vendor tells us that boot floor reinforcement was carried out even though no cracks were present, while the con rod bearings and VANOS system were renewed by a marque specialist. In 2022 the suspension was refreshed on all four corners and new brake pipes were fitted. Corrosion pathways have been addressed too, with the front wings reported to be fitted with stainless steel arch liners and both inner and outer rear wheel arches replaced. A new bonnet and front bumper complete the picture of a car that's been treated to extensive preventative maintenance.
Finished in Mysticblau Metallic over a black leather interior, this M3 looks great throughout. The exterior paintwork is glossy and consistent, the 19-inch Style 67 alloys have been refinished and wear Michelin rubber with healthy tread, and the quad stainless-steel exhaust tips gleam at the rear, while the interior presents honestly for a car that’s been enjoyed and looked after.
A useful cache of spares accompanies the car including coil springs, a water pump housing, kidney grilles, aluminium front top mounts and front wishbones and it’s the kind of forward-thinking gesture that sums up the entire ownership experience here. Whoever the next lucky owner is will inherit over two decades of care attention and, frankly, we’ll be jealous.

Summary
Over twenty years. One owner. One car, understood inside and out. That's the story here, and it's a rare one for an E46 M3. All the signs are that this Mysticblau Metallic coupé isn't just well-maintained, it's been genuinely cared for by someone who knew exactly what it needed and when. The six-speed manual gearbox, the proactive specialist work, the bundle of spares handed over for the next chapter all adds up to a car that's ready to reward from day one. It’s just waiting for its next enthusiastic to pick up where the last one left off.
