Overview

It's hard to believe the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is now 20 years old because it still looks every bit the contemporary Italian supercar. Introduced in 2006 as a replacement for the 575M Maranello, the 599 GTB presents less as a grand tourer like its predecessor but as a car with more intent; the fact that it's named after the circuit Ferrari uses to dial in its road and race cars should tell you all you need to know about the nature of that intent.

Featuring a slightly de-tuned, 612bhp version of Ferrari's glorious F140 V12 (yep, that's the same one from the Enzo and the La Ferrari), performance is suitably staggering. 0-60mph comes in at a miniscule 3.7seconds and the 599 GTB won't stop until it reaches 205mph. Yeesh. Being an F1-derived machine the suspension and braking systems are as advanced as can be for the time and they imbue the car with the kind of driver dynamics that only a £200K+ Ferrari can. And that's before the addition of the highly desirable HGTE pack, which this particular example just so happens to have been fitted with.

The “Handling Gran Turismo Evoluzione” package is not so much a direct performance enhancer but more of a chassis and handling upgrade. This means stiffer springs, a thicker rear anti-roll bar and a lower ride height, plus new settings for the trick magnetorheological shock absorbers along with a re-mapped gearbox and throttle, quickening both the responsiveness of the engine as well as the gear changes. All of which turn one of the best Ferraris ever built into an even better one.

This 2008 car, already arguably cooler than most due to its colour scheme, was retrofitted with the HGTE pack in 2009 by Colchester Ferrari and comes to market in excellent overall condition. Complete with that all important service history, in this case from both Ferrari main dealers and marque specialists, it has clearly been very well maintained by both the current vendor (a serial Ferrari connoisseur) and previous owners alike. Reportedly driving perfectly and with a recent service under its belt it presents as an incredibly well-sorted example of one of Ferraris true halo cars.

Summary

The standard (as if the word standard could ever truly be applied to such a machine) Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is already a wonderfully special car but add in the HGTE pack and it all gets very Spinal Tap. By  aligning every input into a clear response – be that braking, turn-in, mid corner balance, or traction on exit – it will arguably make you a much better driver, all the while planting the biggest grin on your face in the process. With excellent service history and a host of recent maintenance work and refreshed parts this fantastic Ferrari is fully primed and ready for its next adventure.
