Overview
The Defender - a classless vehicle that looks at home outside of a manor house as it does a farmhouse, the vehicle that can ‘go anywhere, do anything’ and still look stylish whether it is pristine clean or caked in mud; owning and driving a Defender is as much of a lifestyle choice as it is a choice of vehicle, and with recent popularity seemingly surging (judging by social media, anyhow) it seems even the uninitiated are warming to the Defender’s unique charms.
For those looking for a daily driver or easy-to-use Defender, the general rule is the later, the better. These late-production models (with a 2.4 or 2.2-litre engine) offer six-speed gearboxes, better on-road manners and the ability to keep up with modern traffic far easier than their earlier, arguably more agricultural counterparts.
This 2014-registered Defender 110 is an example of the latter, with the 2.2-litre ‘Puma’ engine. A commercial-spec ‘hard top’ (correctly registered as a Light Goods Vehicle on the V5) you get plenty of practicality with the extended wheelbase and added security thanks to the blanked rear windows, making it ideal as a business or expedition vehicle, or perhaps just a very practical all-terrain family wagon!
With under 30,000 miles on the odometer and not a single mention of the dreaded corrosion/rust problems on the MOT history sheet, examples like this one are getting harder to find each year, so if you’ve been waiting for such an example, this is your chance.

Summary
With its iconic looks, impressive practicality and go-anywhere, do-anything attitude, it is no wonder that the classic Defender is such an icon of automotive history, and these late-production TdCi models are arguably the most usable of the lot, thanks to the six-speed gearbox and 2.2-litre engine that allows them to cruise at modern motorway speeds with ease, yet retain the all-terrain and towing ability the model is known for.
This 110 ‘Hard Top’ presents very well overall, which coupled with its low mileage of under 30,000 and corrosion-free MOT history suggests that it won’t hang around long. Happy bidding!
