Overview
Ask 100 people to list their dream garage and chances are most, if not all of them, will include a Ford Mustang of some description amongst their chosen collection. Because the Mustang has transcended mere automotive aspirations to become a true cultural icon and remains a favourite for myriad motoring fans the world over. From those very first pony cars of the sixties to the fire-breathing modern muscle cars they are today the Mustang's journey has been a long and indeed interesting one but for many the original, first-generation is the purest and most coveted of the bunch.
There's just something about the effortless cool and inherent simplicity of those early cars that is undeniably appealing. Handsome looks, uncomplicated mechanicals and a choice of six and eight-cylinder engines of varying performance there's a first-gen Mustang for everyone, making it a popular choice both in period as well as in today's classic market.
Not only that but the cultural legacy the Mustang has cultivated over the six decades since its inception cannot be ignored, especially where celluloid is concerned. From the '71 Sportsroof and Shelby GT500 from both the original and re-made Gone in Sixty Seconds movies respectively, to John Wick's Fastback and the '68 GT350 from Bullitt, the Mustang has accumulated some serious screen time.
And speaking of Bullitt, this particular 1967 Ford Mustang 289 hardtop has been beautifully refinished as an homage to that most famous of movie cars, albeit in notchback guise. Presenting in Highland Green paint and with the correct five-spoke American Racing 15” alloys the car is fitted with a 4.7-litre V8 sending power to the rear via a three-speed automatic gearbox. Serviced by renowned specialists Jim Stokes Workshops, as well as Durham Restoration, the car looks to be in superb shape throughout and is reportedly running perfectly following a recent full service as reported by the vendor.
