Overview

Not long after Big Ben had chimed in the new millennium — and the world’s computers had coped with 1999 being followed by 2000 — this 996 rolled off the production line, destined for the UK. It had been sprayed in a sensible shade of silver paint, but its blue leather interior and matching soft top roof added just a dash of flair.

More excitingly, this is a manual Carrera 4 Cabriolet, so you get to enjoy changing gear with the wind in your hair and the warm feeling of power being sent to all four wheels. Remember it’s the year 2000 and four-wheel drive is still a pretty unusual feature to find on a car which isn’t designed to haul sheep trailers across muddy fields.

This particular 996 comes with a freshly-passed MOT certificate, and no advisory issues reported. It has plenty of stamps in its service booklet, and even retains its original owners manuals and documentation. It has covered under 24,000 miles in the 26 years since it was first registered, so has evidently seen only sparing use.

What better way to enjoy the coming summer months than to get behind the wheel of a proper manually controlled four-wheel drive Porsche 911.

Summary

This Carrera 4 is very well presented throughout, with interior upholstery and paintwork which make it look younger than its years, helped of course by its very low mileage. And when you hear that six-cylinder engine roar into life, you’ll be heading for the nearest and twistiest B-road you can think of. We can think of few better ways to spend a summer evening.
