Overview
The Maserati 4200 Spyder has one job, and it does it very well indeed. Where the Coupe offered a beautiful grand tourer, the Spyder stripped the formula back to its essentials: a Ferrari-built 4.2-litre V8, two seats, open sky, and nothing between you and that exhaust note but fresh air.
Launched in 2001 as the convertible companion to the 4200 GT, the Spyder wore Giugiaro's elegant lines with the roof mechanism tucked neatly beneath a flush rear deck. The proportions worked beautifully with a long bonnet, short tail and that distinctive trident on the grille. It looked exactly like what it was: a proper Italian sports car with serious engineering beneath the glamour.
And this is a particularly appealing example. Finished in blue metallic over tan leather, it presents the kind of colour combination that gets better with every passing year. An aftermarket body kit (front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser) adds a touch of visual aggression, while a Larini rear exhaust boxes give the V8 a voice that properly announces itself on a summer evening. That, really, is the whole point of the Spyder. You don't buy one because you need rear seats or a big boot. You buy one because you want to hear 390 bhp worth of Italian V8 reverberating off hedgerows with the roof stowed.
This car has covered just 38,692 miles across 22 years, and the service history tells a story of conscientious maintenance. In current ownership since 2019, used sparingly but properly, we think it looks gorgeous.

Summary
A blue-over-tan Maserati Spyder with a Larini exhaust and just 38,692 miles has considerable sensory appeal. That Ferrari V8 sounds magnificent in an open-top car and the tan leather cockpit is a lovely place to sit. Seven years of careful current ownership provides a compelling proposition for anyone who understands that some driving experiences simply cannot be had with the roof up. Ready to enjoy.
