Overview

The Renault Clio V6 is quite possibly one of the most outrageous hot hatches ever produced, combining supercar theatre with compact hatchback proportions. Built by Renault and developed by Renault Sport, it was conceived as a modern homage to the legendary mid-engined Renault 5 Turbo models of the 1980s.

Introduced in 2003, the Phase 2 model represented a significant improvement over the earlier Phase 1 car. While the original Clio V6 was famous for its dramatic styling and challenging handling, the updated Phase 2 version benefited from extensive chassis and suspension revisions that made it considerably more composed and confidence-inspiring to drive.

On the performance side, the Phase 2 also saw a welcome power increase to 255 bhp from the 3.0-litre 24-valve V6, which in turn improved the 0-62 mph time to around 5.8 seconds and gave it a top speed of 153 mph.

Visually, the Phase 2 retains the hugely aggressive stance that makes the Clio V6 such an icon. Subtle styling revisions over the Phase 1 included redesigned headlights, updated bumpers, and improved detailing throughout. The result was a car that looked every bit as wild as it drives.

The Clio V6 is highly collectable thanks to its rare combination of a mid-engine layout, a manual gearbox, naturally aspirated power, and an unmistakable appearance, making it one of the most memorable hot hatches of its era. It gives us great pleasure to present this beautiful 2004 example, which has covered just 41,996 miles

Interior

• The half-leather and fabric seats featuring Renault Sport embroidery are in very good condition, with minimal signs of age

• Colour-coded sections to the dashboard and centre console are in excellent condition

• The steering wheel has gone sticky at some point (this is a common occurrence)

• The numbered plaque is in place, showing it is number 178

• The instruments are working correctly, and no warning lights were displayed when we visited the car

• The odometer showed just 41,996 miles at the time the car was photographed

• All of the switchgear is in good condition and said to be working correctly

• The air conditioning does not blow cold; the vendor tells us this is extremely common for many Clio V6s

• An upgraded Clarion head unit has been fitted

• The carpet is clean and tidy, with no real signs of heavy use

• The clear engine cover does have a couple of cracks around some of the holes used to attach it

• The original carpeted engine cover is included

• The factory jack and wheel brace are in place

Exterior

• Finished in the stunning Iliad Blue

• The paintwork is in excellent condition and presents very well

• The panel gaps appear to be even

• No dings or dents were spotted when we viewed the Clio V6

• There are the odd, very minor stone chips in keeping with the age

• Front and rear light lenses are free from splits or cracks

• All of the windows are in good condition, with no noticeable scratches or marks

• The window seals all appear to be in good order, with no perishing or shrinkage

• The original 18-inch alloy wheels are all in good order, with no signs of corrosion to the faces

• The tyres are a matching set, but the vendor tells us these are quite old; however, there doesn’t appear to be any cracking

Mechanical

• 3.0-litre, 24-valve V6 engine

• Produces approximately 255 bhp and 221 lb-ft of torque

• The engine starts without hesitation and runs with no problems reported

• A sports exhaust has been fitted, which improves the tone and possibly adds a few extra horses

• A couple of new spare coil packs are included

• The timing belt was replaced in March 2026 at 41,905 miles

• Service carried out in March 2026

• Six-speed manual gearbox

• The lower suspension arms have been replaced with units made by a well-known Clio.net forum member who supplies these, as they are no longer available from Renault

• No knocks or bangs come from either corner of the car, and it handles as you would expect

• The brakes bring the car to a stop in a straight line, with no issues reported by the vendor

• The underside appears to be clean, with no leaks spotted

Summary

This 2004 example, finished in striking Iliad Blue with the original 18-inch alloy wheels, is build number 178 and has covered just 41,996 miles from new, with just over 4,000 miles added during the last ten years of ownership. 

Presented in excellent condition throughout, the car features a well-kept interior. Mechanically, it has recently benefited from a timing belt replacement and service carried out in March 2026 at 41,905 miles. Accompanied by its V5C, service booklet, owner’s manuals, invoices for work carried out over the years, and a recent MOT valid until March 2027.
