Overview

The final incarnation of the true Triumph TR tradition the TR6 remains a handsome beast with its muscular, chiselled exterior that's perfectly complimented by the raucous 2.5-litre straight-six under the bonnet and its a car that still feels fast today. Don't forget, there wasn't much at the time that could compare to the TR6 in terms of terms of performance at that price point and underneath all the hairy-chest bravado was an incredibly capable British two-seater sports car.

Easier to live with than any previous TR, the 6, despite being inherently tough and durable, is more refined, more comfortable and with excellent club and parts support a doddle to maintain. Being an early 1969 example this particular TR6 comes with the full, fuel-injected 150bhp (before the engine was detuned in 1973) and presents as a prime example of Triumph's robust roadster.

Beginning its life as a press car it was used extensively by Triumph and even appeared on television. The car has clearly been cherished, not only by the company that made it but also its subsequent owners, including the dedicated engineer and enthusiast who looked after the car for most of its life and invested considerable time and money to maintain its excellent condition. In the last ten years the gearbox and clutch have been rebuilt, the differential has been refurbished and the fuel injection system has been fettled by the TR gurus at specialists Prestige Injection, ensuring a stable and reliable setup.

The engine has been further enhanced with the addition of an electronic ignition system, Bosch fuel pump and electric cooling fan, with the vendor informing us that the car is running well with optimal oil pressure and engine temperature readings. Aesthetically the car presents very well overall with excellent paintwork and the chassis has also been treated and painted.

Summary

Clearly well-maintained and benefiting from a few choice upgrades this full-fat TR6 is a lovely example of one of Triumph's crowning achievements with any wrinkles commensurate with the marque having been ironed flat. Providing some of the best open-top motoring money can buy, and not that much money in the grand scheme of things, it makes a heck of a lot of sense, especially with summer pretty much on the doorstep.
