Overview

More than just a Boxster with a roof, the Porsche Cayman, introduced in 2005, is a powerful and stylish mid-engined coupe with confidence-inspiring handling and excellent chassis dynamics that still presents as a proper sports car, making for an excellent used buy today. Consistently tweaked over its seven year production run, the original 987 Cayman S is arguably the most engaging but if you're after something a bit more chic and unique then the limited production Design Edition 1 is the one to have.

With just 777 examples produced it's certainly a rarity but what do you actually get besides the kudos points? Well, the Design Edition benefits from a whole host of exclusive cosmetic options intended to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Porsche design. Externally the car features jet black paintwork with special Design Edition 1 graphics and triple stripes in charcoal grey in addition to 19″ Turbo wheels with 5mm spacers and a 10mm lower, more aggressive stance.

Inside, the car was bestowed with swathes of Alcantara as well as a unique instrument cluster making the Design Edition a car for the discerning Porsche enthusiast with an eye for prestige and exclusivity. Mechanically the car retains the same venerable 295bhp, 3.4-litre flat-six mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as found in the standard Cayman S which means 0-60mph in around five seconds and a top speed of just over 170mph.

This particular example has been further enhanced by the addition of a trick touchscreen Pioneer Double Din mechless media receiver which delivers premium smartphone integration, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Audio.
