Overview
The NC-generation MX-5 took Mazda's lightweight roadster formula and added just enough refinement to make it a proper everyday sports car. The multi-link rear suspension brought a maturity to the handling without dulling the playfulness that's always defined the nameplate, and the power retractable hardtop made year-round motoring genuinely practical. The Sport Venture Edition sits near the top of the NC range, arriving with heated leather seats, climate control, and a few tasteful visual touches that set it apart from the standard car.
This particular Sport Venture has been taken to the next level. In April 2025, at 43,501 miles, BBR fitted their Duratec 2.5-litre conversion, a job backed by a dyno sheet showing 210.5 bhp at 6,000 RPM and 202.2 lb ft at 3,500 RPM - a meaningful chunk of power, delivered by one of the most respected MX-5 specialists in the country. The conversion included a Stage One organic clutch, high-performance valve springs, a custom dyno remap, and balance shaft delete. The invoice came to a shade over seven and a half thousand pounds, and the paperwork is included.
Finished in deep blue metallic over light grey and black leather, it's a good-looking thing. The bodywork presents well, while inside the leather remains supple with minimal bolster wear. It's covered fewer than 44,000 miles across three keepers. So what you've got here is an NC MX-5 with that famous handling and a properly potent 2.5-litre under the bonnet, all wrapped up in a well-specced special edition with the hard top. It's a car that makes a genuinely compelling case for itself.

Summary
This is an MX-5 that's been genuinely enhanced by one of the best in the business. The BBR 2.5-litre conversion gives it the kind of performance that turns every B-road into an event, and the Sport Venture spec means you're not roughing it on the way there. It presents honestly for its age, with good paintwork, tidy leather, and the reassurance of a clear HPI check and a fresh MOT. If you love the NC formula and fancy the extra edge that 210 bhp brings, this could be the one.
