Overview

The third-generation NC is the MX-5 that grew up without losing the plot. It took the recipe the model made its name on, a light rear-drive roadster you can lean on all day, and gave it more space, more polish and a proper 2.0-litre with a limited-slip differential on the manual cars. It's the sort of car you can drive to work on Monday and take to a trackday on Saturday, which is exactly why so many enthusiasts still swear by them.

This one, though, is no standard NC. The car is 2.0 Sport which includes full leather, heated seats, Bose and LSD, finished in a deep metallic Stormy Blue that suits the shape beautifully. Now it wears a full BBR Stage 2 turbo conversion and pulled 298.6bhp on BBR's own dyno. That alone would be enough for most, but what really sets this car apart is what's gone on underneath. This is a properly engineered driver's MX-5, not a quick bolt-on and a set of stickers.

Here's the good part. The chassis and brakes have been developed with real depth, with BBR Koni dampers and springs, Powerflex bushes throughout, adjustable anti-roll bars front and rear, corner-weighted geometry and a Wilwood front brake kit. It's a car set up to stop and handle as hard as it goes, and the cabin has been given the same personal treatment, from the Alcantara wheel with blue stitching to the yellow rev counter and the oil temp/oil pressure and water temp gauge on the A-pillar.

It presents as a genuine enthusiast's build that's been used and enjoyed, then continually fettled, with a run of work through 2025 keeping it fresh. It's a lovely looking example of a thoroughly developed, individual NC, and one that stands apart on both colour and the completeness of its build.

Exterior

  • The car presents well across all panels in its deep metallic Stormy Blue paintwork, glossy and even throughout

  • Panel gaps and shut lines are straight and even front to rear

  • There are a few minor marks and light stone chips to the front, commensurate with age and a dark colour

  • A BBR dyno session recorded 298.6bhp and 253lb ft

  • Drive goes through a six-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential

  • The turbo installation features a Garrett turbocharger under a BBR carbon-fibre heat shield, front-mounted intercooler, polished charge pipework, oil catch can and braided lines

  • BBR Koni Dampers and Springs fitted as part of the BBR MX-5 NC suspension package

  • Powerflex bushes run throughout, with adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars and a corner-weighted geometry set-up

  • The braking side pairs a Wilwood front kit with braided lines , plus a fitted AWR brake cooling kit

  • Recent work through 2025 covered the bushes, anti-roll bars, geometry, discs and a new aluminium cam cover in in crackle red

  • The vendor tells us fresh PBS Pro Race pads were fitted in at the same time

  • The vendor states it starts on the button and drives perfectly, and it's ready to enjoy

Summary

This is a comprehensively developed, deep-blue NC with the specification and set-up to back up the looks. The BBR Stage 2 turbo gives it the pace, but it's the depth of the chassis and braking build, along with the personalised cabin, that makes it stand apart. It presents as a well-cared-for example that's been enjoyed and kept fresh, and it's a complete driving package ready to be used as intended.
