Overview

The E60 M5 is the only four-door saloon BMW has ever built around a 5.0-litre V10, and this is a genuinely exceptional example of one. Finished in Black Sapphire metallic over full black Merino leather, it presents in outstanding condition for a car that has covered just under 50k miles. And is if having been owned by the former F1 driver Mark Blundell isn't enough, the specification is where it really pulls ahead.

This was ordered new as a range-topping car with almost every box ticked. Extended leather runs across the dashboard and door cards, and the equipment list takes in a Head-Up Display, electric glass sunroof, heated and ventilated M multifunction sports seats, professional navigation, Logic7 audio, adaptive xenon headlights and comfort access. 

Under the bonnet sits the standard S85 engine, a 507bhp naturally aspirated V10 driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed SMG gearbox. It has been maintained largely by BMW main dealers throughout, with a thick file of invoices to match, and the significant wear items have long since been attended to. The deep gloss paint has been freshly professionally polished, the panels and shut lines are straight, and the cabin has clearly been cherished.

Cars like this, honestly specified, honestly documented and honestly kept, do not come around often. And here's the good news: this one is ready to be enjoyed.

Interior

• Full black Merino leather M multifunction sports seats show minimal wear, the rear seats are near-unused and the anthracite Alcantara headlining is excellent throughout.

• The one-off Birchwood interior is not to everyone's taste but can be changed

• Head-Up Display, professional navigation with voice control, Logic7 audio, electric rear sunblind and factory privacy glass all fitted from new

• The extended leather dashboard is lifting slightly near the windscreen (vendor-stated)

• Very slight wear to the driver's seat bolster; a small area of peeling on the steering-wheel airbag surround

• The driver's side extended leg support now adjusts by hand rather than electrically

• The air conditioning is temperamental and works only intermittently (the vendor tells us)

Exterior

• The Black Sapphire paint carries a deep gloss after a fresh professional polish, with straight panels, tidy shut lines and no dents seen.

• 19-inch M double-spoke alloys with only very light marks, wearing fresh Continental tyres

• Cross-drilled M brakes with recent discs and pads, refurbished adaptive xenon headlights with clear lenses and clean quad exhaust tips

• Approximately 10 to 12 small stone chips on the bonnet

• A faint kerb mark on one wheel and a small mark on another; a slight scuff low on the driver's side sill

• The plastic trim around the rear window and the rubber gaskets on the M door-shut covers have become brittle

• Underside is clean and dry with all undertrays fitted

Mechanical

• The 5.0-litre S85 V10 produces 507bhp and 384 lb ft, good for 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds, with drive going to the rear wheels through a seven-speed SMG gearbox.

• Standard, unmolested S85 engine bay

• VANOS gear mechanisms, seals and oil delivery line replaced under warranty (2013); both throttle actuator motors replaced under warranty (2017)

• Clutch and flywheel replaced (2018)

• Full front and rear suspension refresh with track rods, tie rods and wheel alignment, plus front and rear brake discs and pads (2018)

• SMG gearbox and final drive serviced repeatedly through its BMW history

• Fresh Continental tyres and genuine BMW brakes fitted within the last 2,000 miles or so, and a brand new AGM battery recently fitted (vendor-stated)

• iDrive/CiC unit professionally repaired in 2026 with a lifetime warranty and a 2026 navigation map update, and hard-wired front and rear BlackVue dash cams fitted by BMW (vendor-stated)

• The vendor tells us it starts and idles cleanly with no knocks, tracks arrow-straight, has a dry rear diff and freshly refreshed suspension, and that the V10 induction and exhaust note are superb

Summary

This is a rare chance to buy an early E60 M5 that has was specified to the hilt by its first owner Mark Blundell, documented in depth and clearly looked after. The 507bhp S85 V10 remains standard, the Black Sapphire paint and Merino cabin present beautifully, and the big-ticket maintenance is behind it. It's a lovely looking example of one of BMW's most charismatic saloons, and one we would be proud to have in our own garage.
