Overview
Americans love a traffic light grand prix. Which makes absolute sense when you think about it: the modern USA pretty much grew up around the car, with cities and towns planned on grid formats with wide, spacious roads. Performance for our Yankee brethren is all about going from this junction to that junction, in a straight line, as quickly as possible.
Europe, on the other hand, is a tad older. Our streets and roads developed from centuries old horse-and-cart tracks. Our country lanes and cities are bustling, dense, tightly packed and our roads weave in and out of buildings and landscapes that haven’t changed much in a thousand years. So, for us, straight lines are anathema. What we love are corners. Fast, linked, technical corners that really expose a car’s true ability.
No-one has risen to that challenge quite as well as Porsche. They are the masters of taking a car (the 911) whose base form and layout should make it a right old handful on twisty roads, and making something instinctive, sublime and phenomenally capable. Of all their creations over the years, the 997.2 era of GT3 cars is possibly the highlight. It probably isn’t stretching the truth to say that doesn’t get any better than this.
Why? Well, for starters, that 3.8-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six is a work of art. Sonorous, powerful and with a 8,500rpm redline that will send you hunting for tunnels and walled country lanes at every opportunity. Then there’s the handling, which shouldn’t work being as the engine is at the back. But it not only works, it grabs most front and mid-engined sports cars by the scruff and gives them a right good thumping. On a track or twisty ribbon of tarmac, the 997.2 GT3 is king. Plus it’s a Porsche, so it’s built like properly. The quality is up there with the best.
This particular model has been breathed on, not lightly, but not too heavily. The basics are all excellent: it’s presented in fine condition, the service history is superb, the spec is great (911s in white just look right), the mileage is low and it will come with a fresh MOT and service. Lots to love there. Yet there’s even more to love.
That’s because, in 2020, when the car had done just 18,927 miles, the owner took it to JZM (Porsche performance specialists) and basically said “make me a Cup car, but for the road, please and thank you”. A hell of a lot of work (and more than £37,000) later, and the result is what you see here. Which is magnificent.
If you like fast cars that go like a tiger with a Scotch Bonnet wedged somewhere uncomfortable, then you’ll love this car. If you like a car that offers nuance, delicacy and ultimate feel, then you’ll love this car. If you like a car that will obliterate every road and track, lift every bad mood and put a smile on even the craggiest of faces, then you’ll love this car.
We have a feeling that, when all’s said and done, you’ll love this car.

Summary
If you’ve read everything above, then you already know you need this car. You don’t want it, you don’t fancy it, you NEED it.
We completely understand, as we feel the same. The 997.2 GT3 is already a near perfect, complete car. It’s legendary for a reason. The drivetrain is mesmerising, the power and soundtrack never less than spine-tingling.
But this is even better. This is a stunning car, in a fabulous specification, presented in wonderful condition. It is, quite frankly, as good as it gets.
