Overview
The W212 E63 AMG is Mercedes' fourth-generation E-Class turned up to full volume. Every one packs a hand-built AMG V8 making well over 500bhp, and the estate adds proper family-hauling space into the bargain. The twin-turbo 5.5-litre M157 arrived in 2011, and the 2014 facelift lifted output to around 550bhp, sent to the rear wheels through the 7-speed Speedshift MCT auto.
This particular car plays the sleeper game beautifully. Maturely ordered in Silver and opted de-badged, it hides that biturbo V8 behind the plainest of executive estate bodywork. The giveaways are the quad tailpipes, the AMG diffuser and a set of staggered gunmetal multi-spoke alloys.
The real party trick is how discreet it all is, right down to the de-badged grille. The engine still wears its individual AMG build plaque, that "one man, one engine" signature from Affalterbach, and the seller tells us it also has the less-common upgraded 360-degree cameras.
Inside it presents very well, the black leather showing only light wear, and it's backed by a thick file of invoices covering recent work including a Service B and fresh MOT. It's a fast, comfortable and quietly menacing estate that looks ready to be used and enjoyed.
