Overview

Ah, the great British sports car industry. What was once a prolific and abundant segment is now sadly a shadow of its former self but all is not lost. There are still a handful of UK manufacturers building truly excellent performance racers, roadsters and track day weapons. Companies like Ariel, Radical and Gordon Murray Automotive are triumphantly flying the flag for British-built rapid rides, allowing us speed freaks to fully indulge our passions. All excellent in their own right but they're all pretty modern in the grand scheme of things. What if you're after something with a little more heritage? A manufacturer with a few more years in the game? Well, you turn to Marcos of course.

Producing handsome and capable sports cars since the early 1960s and with an impressive motorsport legacy to boot, Marcos certainly knows a thing or two when it comes to building sporty numbers. And it's that motorsport heritage that we can thank for this truly stunning Marcos LM400 coupe. Homologated in the early '90s and offered to the public so that Marcos could return to competing at Le Mans the LM400 was produced in incredibly limited numbers with this particular coupe conversion being one of just a handful of fixed roof models. The appeal doesn't end there though because this car has been significantly upgraded across the board.

From the high-performance N.C.K. Sports Pack and accompanying supercharger with standalone engine management system to upgraded suspension and brakes this Marcos LM400 not only has double its original power output but is dynamically set up to be better on track as well as more enjoyable on the road and currently presents as arguably the highest spec LM in existence, the full extent of which can be found below.

With just four owners from new and an impressive service history, including all invoices for works carried out to the tune of £35K in the last three years, this beautiful, wonderfully rare and vastly improved Marcos LM400 represents a legitimate, once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire a truly unique car. It's even signed by Marcos founder Jem Marsh. What more could you possibly ask for?

Summary

With an alleged 384bhp on tap thanks to the myriad performance upgrades, plus a kerb weight of just 1075kg, this Marcos LM400 has a serious power to weight ratio that can be fully exploited due to the additional aero and other mechanical enhancements, turning an already accomplished racer into a serious contender. Only four coupe LM cars were purportedly built making this LM400 – the only known supercharged example in existence – a ridiculously rare and incredibly special machine.
