Overview
The third-generation RX-7, the FD, is one of the definitive Japanese performance cars of the 90s. Mazda took a compact twin-rotor engine, added sequential twin-turbocharging, and wrapped it in a low, curvaceous body that, to this day, looks fast standing still. The result is a light, rear-wheel-drive coupe praised for its handling and a soundtrack quite unlike anything with pistons.
This is a genuine Efini Series 6 Type R2, the desirable JDM specification, and it has been the subject of a comprehensive, no-expense-spared restoration carried out to return it to factory-original condition; this is resolutely not a Fast and Furious-style tribute, unlike so many examples of the RX-7.
The bodywork has been taken back to bare metal and resprayed in its original silver by Finishline, while rotary specialist Rotor Torque has carried out a full engine-out rebuild and mechanical overhaul, sourcing genuine OEM parts from Japan and reverting earlier aftermarket additions to standard. The two-seat cabin presents beautifully, with its original seats retained and the correct Efini red-on-black instruments professionally refurbished.
The paint finish is deep and even, the panel gaps are tight, and the engine bay has been detailed to a standard that matches the paint. It keeps its aftermarket Kakimoto exhaust for that characteristic rotary bark, and the vendor tells us it starts, runs and drives exactly as an FD should. Freshly restored, factory-correct and rare in this specification, this is a hugely desirable modern classic ready to be enjoyed.

Summary
In this specification and this condition, the RX-7 makes a compelling case for itself. A genuine Efini Type R2 restored to factory-original standard, with fresh paint, a rebuilt rotary engine and a beautifully presented cabin, it offers the rare chance to buy an FD that has already had the hard work done. This is a car to drive and enjoy, not a project to finish, and the vendor tells us it wants for nothing.
