Overview

Aston Martin didn’t see fit to change all too much in creating the run-out AMR editions of the VH-platformed Vantage, but then again, why would they? One of the most finely proportioned and tastefully styled cars of the 20th century it had also, over the course of 12 years, become the most successful model in the brand’s storied history.

It was as sumptuous to drive as it was to behold too, with a characterful and engaging engine complimented by sublime balance and handling. A powertrain that encouraged full use of the 430bhp V8’s 7,300rpm redline paired with tactile steering and, in this case, a six-speed manual transmission, made for the definition of a driver’s car.

Small wonder, then, that Gaydon didn’t feel there was much left to improve, even under the moniker of ‘Aston Martin Racing’. Instead, the AMR paid homage to the success of the outgoing Vantage formula with a series of aesthetic options which highlighted the model’s prowess on both road and track.

Most literal among these was the ‘Halo Pack’ boasted by this car, which featured Stirling Green paint with Lime Green accents and Union Flag-enamelled badges, a tribute to the similarly styled Vantage GTE race car which won its WEC championship in 2016.

This example takes things one step further, though, thanks to a £7,800 Bamford and Rose Phase 3 tuning package - a 50bhp upgrade kit bringing new exhaust components and an ECU remap, along with a lightweight flywheel and upgraded twinplate clutch.

So equipped, it ought to deliver the additional performance to match its all-conquering panache. A unique way to pay tribute to one of British motoring’s most iconic models.

Summary

It’s easy to get down on the state of the UK automotive industry these days, but this lot is a great reminder of what it does best: a hand-built driver’s car that’s left a lasting legacy on both road and track.

With just 300 examples of the Vantage AMR having been produced (200 V8 and 100 V12), a smaller number sporting the Halo Pack, and who knows how few boasting Bamford and Rose’s attention, it represents an individual way to celebrate one of Aston’s best sellers.
