Overview

BMW Tourings, or estates if you prefer, have always been cool. This is a fact. There's just something about a German wagon that simply works and BMW are one of the best to play that particular game. But then there's Alpina and what they can do is on another level entirely. From the B10 4.6 Touring of the mid-nineties to the more modern powerhouses that are the B3 and B5 Touring models, BMW's high-end luxury brand has consistently churned out some truly special cars that go far above and way beyond any standard wagon, and this sublime 2022 B3 Touring is a prime example.

The sixth generation Alpina B3, based on the G21 BMW 3 Series, is equipped with the same S58 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six engine from the G80 M3 and produces a whopping 462bhp and 516 lb ft of torque, allowing for a 0-60mph time of around three-and-a-half seconds. And this is an estate car, don't forget, making those numbers even more impressive.

An incredibly precise car thanks to further fettling from Alpina the B3 Touring also remains supple enough to enjoy sedately should you wish, but lean on the loud pedal and the horizon starts coming at you at an alarming rate. It may not be as lairy as an M3 but then that's kind of the point because the Alpina B3 Touring is for the connoisseur – the discerning driver looking for something a bit special without being too shouty about it and it could very well be all the car you'll ever need.

Coming to market in stunning overall condition this one owner from new example has covered a mere 32K miles since leaving the factory. Complete with all original documentation, a set of invoices for parts, servicing and maintenance and a recent BMW main dealer service under its belt the car has clearly been cherished. Beautifully presented and described as driving extremely well by the vendor make no mistake, this BMW Alpina B3 Touring is a lot of car.

Summary

The G21 Alpina B3 Touring is not only ridiculously quick but it also perfectly marries day-to-day comfort and usability with subdued yet handsome looks and is far more subtle than the shouty “look at me” M3. One of the best B3s ever? Quite possibly, and this particular example is a fine representation of that rather wonderful and incredibly desirable Alpina magic.
