Overview
Launched in 1996, the Lotus Elise S1 is the kind of car that reminds you why you fell for driving in the first place. Its fibreglass body sits on a bonded, extruded aluminium chassis weighing just 67kg, so the whole car comes in at about 755kg. Around 10,600 were built up to 2001, and there isn't even an exterior door handle to slow you down.
Power comes from a 1.8-litre Rover K-series four-cylinder making 118bhp and 122lb ft, sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual. Paired with so little mass, that's good for 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds and 124mph flat out. Add unassisted steering and a timeless shape, and you've got a car many regard as among the purest driver's cars of its era.
This 2000 car is finished in yellow, and in 2023 Allon White Sports Cars retrimmed its seats in black leather with Probax inserts. The vendor tells us both factory roofs are included, the colour-matched hardtop and the black soft top, so you're covered whatever the British weather does. It received an S2 suspension upgrade in 2018 and in 2025 it gained a pair of Bilstein rear shock absorbers, two Eibach springs and an uprated aluminium radiator.
A pair of new Hankook rear tyres followed in March 2026, and a file of invoices dating back to 2004 completes the picture. Pick your roof, point it at your favourite B-road and let the K-series sing. With a retrimmed cabin, refreshed rear suspension and cooling, and 44,157 miles on the clock, this is a lovely S1 that's ready to be enjoyed.
