LAND ROVER 1999
1999 Range Rover 4.6 HSE
In a remarkable state of preservation, this is no ordinary P38 Range Rover.
From time-to-time we come across, low mileage time warp cars that have not only been lightly used, but also maintained and cared for. T801 UEE is such a car.
Introduced in 1994, P38 was the first major update to the original Range Rover series which was launched in 1969. Retaining V8 power, but by now enlarged by now from the original cars 3.5 litres to 4.6, the P38 also brought a new level of sophistication to the original concept as well as increased luxury, but retained the original cars live axles and “proper” four-wheel-drive system and thus maintained the cars’ legendary off-road ability.
This particular example is beautifully dry and free from major oil leaks underneath, a rare thing in a P38. In addition she also benefits from a previous careful owner having invested in wax coating of the underside and running gear of the vehicle, and therefore we are already starting from a good place with this car. Indeed following our usual workshop inspection our technician commented that this was one of the best preserved examples he had ever come across.
Moving on to the cosmetics, the paintwork is in great condition and externally the vehicles presents very well indeed. similarly the interior trim has clearly been cared for and been subject to very light use. No evidence of muddy boots or dogs anywhere to be found. We assume the cars’ original Japanese owner looked after her with Zen like attention to detail.
P38’s are starting to gather pace in the classic Range Rover world. We recently marketed a UK “Anniversary” P38, with slightly higher mileage than this car, in similar condition, for significantly more that this particular car is offered at and I can report that it sold very quickly indeed.
In our view therefore, T801 UEE represents a great opportunity to own a Classic second generation Range Rover which has tremendous originality combined with outstanding mechanical and cosmetic condition. As a go anywhere alternative to other “modern classics” with more comfort and luxury than almost anything else on the road, these cars make a lot of sense.
