Description
*DEPOSIT TAKEN - AWAITING COLLECTION*
This is my gorgeous porsche 996.1 C4 coupe manual 3.4 (non sunroof) with full factory aero kit in metallic black with graphite grey interior, first registered in October 1998. I have owned this car for just over 3 years and it has just recently turned 100,000 miles. In my ownership i have done around 6,000 miles in the 3 years that i have owned it, and less than 1000 miles this year. It really doesn't get driven enough, and the main reason for the sale is that i need to upgrade my daily driver in the next few months as i will be doing more miles in it due to work commitments. I don't really want to use the porsche as a daily driver as i feel it would be a shame to put lots of miles on her, but I'm sure she could cope with it. The car is MOTed till December 2021 with no advisories at the last MOT. It has full service history at either porsche main dealer or specialist independent, the Last service was carried out at RPM specialist cars in Knaresborough with car on 99,300 miles in December 2019. Please see full list of service work undertaken on car listed further below.
As anyone who knows one thing about these car, the Achilles heal on the 996 is said to be the IMS bearing which affected all 996's and boxsters along with some 997s. The early 3.4 996's had the more robust dual row IMS bearing which only suffered around 1 percent failure rate, and the general consensus on these 3.4 engines is that if the bearing is going to fail it will probably have failed below the 70,000 mile range. Some people choose to replace the IMS for an aftermarket solution, but the jury is still out as to whether there is any real benefit of doing this with the dual row bearing, as the failure rate is low and the bearing is much more robust than the single row bearing fitted to the latter cars. This car has the original dual row bearing fitted and is showing no signs of problems. I currently have a magnetic sump plug fitted and the oil is inspected for particles every time the car is serviced to allow monitoring of the situation. Replacement IMS bearing kits can be bought and fully fitted for around £1300 on these cars, so if you are going to sleep better at night knowing that you have an after market IMS fitted, then please budget this into your calculations.
The car isn't perfect, but she is a good honest example of a 996 with many of the common problems sorted. Please remember that she is over 20 years old and has 100k on the clock, so you aren't coming to look at a brand new car. The paint has the odd small stone chip and mark that you might expect on a car of this age, but overall its good. interior is also in good condition.
