The Bristol 408 was manufactured between 1963 - 1966 and with only 83 Bristol 408 produced, rarity is assured.

Mechanically, the Bristol 408 was identical to its predecessor the 407, which had been a major departure for Bristol with its use of a Chrysler V8 engine and automatic transmission. However, outwardly there were some major changes. The frontal styling of the 407 - which had been a carry-over from the six-cylinder 406 and 405 - was discarded and in its place was a rectangular grille with pronounced horizontal bars. Another major change was the turn indicator lamps, which on the 408 were wide and rectangular in contrast to the 407's round lamps.

The engine of the 407 and 408 Mk 1 had a capacity of 313 cu in or 5.1 Litres. This gave the 408 250 bhp, a top speed of 122 mph and 0 – 60 mph in 9.9 seconds. The Bristol was indeed a sports saloon.

The three speed Torqueflite automatic gearbox is operated by push button controls to the right of the dashboard.

This Bristol 408 has been under current ownership (the third owner) since April 1994 and has travelled only 474 miles in the last 19 years.

Invoices going back to 1989, a copy of the owner’s handbook, workshop manual and a V5 registration document are with the car.

The vehicle has recently undergone a respray, complete overhaul of the gearbox, commissioned for a new MOT and is now ready to drive away.
