Ducati 851 Lucchinelli Replica used
1988 Used Ducati 851 888CC LUCCHINELLI REPLICA motorbikes for sale in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, in red this used Ducati 851 888CC LUCCHINELLI REPLICA is another fine example of what is available from used motorbike specialist dealers, The Bike Specialists, Sheffield, South Yorkshire. THE BIKE SPECIALISTS, TRADING STANDARDS AWARD WINNERS. We are proud to be able to offer this extremely rare 1988 Ducati 851 Marco Lucchinelli genuine factory racer. Back In 1988 this was an extremely expensive piece of race exotica selling for 28,000,00 including the 10k carbon fairings & racing kit. The Lucchinelli Rep was originally scheduled for 50 examples to be produced to help fund Ducatis World Superbike programme, raising over 2 million euro equivalent, however in true Italian style, Ducati ran into financial problems and the project halted after only 17 completed examples. Our example was the 17th completed. The 888 Lucchinelli is a track focused version of the 851 Tricolore Superbike Kit in which Marco rode the first WSBK championship in 1988. (Ducatis first ever homologation special & WSBK inaugural race winner). It has much more power, much lighter and stiffer, built solely to go racing. Despite its 851 logos (deliberate for marketing of Ducatis then new 851 production models) these examples were the very first Ducati 888cc engine that was the pioneer for the factory race bikes of Foggy, Roche, Pollen and Falappa. Fitted with Sport Production Camshafts, Magnesium Wheels, Brembo Brakes, Marzocchi suspension etc, It was magnificent, and a very humble looking race bike but in reality a lightweight factory built racer, and extremely loud with its Conti Race Exhausts. This was a true thoroughbred and standing next to it you can understand why the private SBK teams filled the order books for the Italian Twin. The Lucchinelli is the pioneer race bike that carved the way for the Ducati Corsa's in Ducatis golden era and is a very important piece of Ducatis history. We believe there are only 11 examples remaining in the world today, however a few of these will have been heavily modified or repaired. They are Incredibly rare and almost unobtainable. To find this type of historic motorcycle with its original race kit and carbon bodywork some 30 years after production is truly unique. The powerplants were designed in collaboration with Cosworth Engineering (whom designed its desmodromic heads) in association with Ferrari whom had previously used the same Magnetti Marelli electronics, the open loop system on its F40 supercar. The Tricolore 851 Kit & Luchinelli Reps are the earliest homologation specials produced on a competition for client basis and those not crashed or modified remain locked away in the most privileged collections. This example, produced in 1988, was delivered to a private individual via Moto Cinelli in the UK. The owner had used it for only track days and exhibitions. We are informed that it was never raced, just used for a very occasional track day by its passionate owner and we believe the carbon bodywork has never been fitted. Having such little use, it was dry stored in the owners home for a substantial time in which the owner sadly passed away. The bike was left to the family estate unused before being purchased and returned to Italy for its recent sympathetic recommissioning. Whilst in a very good original condition this process was carried out by a key Ducati Corse Mechanic whom was a key member of the factory racing team. The restoration has taken 18 months using most of its original parts and new oem sourced parts that are unobtainable to find today. The engine is as new, and has been stripped and fitted with the new cylinders, pistons and injectors from the accompanying kit (originals included). It has also had added a starter and large battery to start this engine on the button as it was felt highly unlikely such an investment will be used for competition use. The suspension has been completely serviced and the 888 has just been run in on the dyno. This motorcycle is now presented in as new concours condition and looks amazing. This example is a true relic of the modern Ducati story and we believe this to be a unique investment opportunity. Supplied with the original spare race kit package, spare carbon bodywork, new tyres and special tool kit, the original workshop manual and Paddock Stand and can be reserved with a small deposit and delivery can be arranged across the UK and worldwide.
