As 1 of only 160 ever produced in right-hand drive, this attractive 850CSi in Oxford Green certainly is a rare treat to the market. Fresh from long-term ownership this good-looking example is offered for sale for the first time in 21 years. Cosmetically the car presents really well throughout, the paintwork retaining a deep metallic shine and uniform colour across every panel. On close inspection there are relatively few blemishes to report, the worst being a small amount of bubbling that has started on the leading edge of the sunroof panel.
The interior is awash with Anthracite Buffalo leather. The heated and electrically adjustable sports seats have worn well with no damage or major wear to speak of, even to the driver’s bolster, which in this case hints at only moderate use. Glancing across the dash the switchgear is pleasingly unworn and still reassuringly solid to operate. Elsewhere, the rear seats appear in great shape, and the footwell carpets are still protected by the original BMW mats. The spacious boot area is also clean and tidy, neatly housing the CD changer, toolkit, and spare wheel.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
At the heart of the 850CSi is the BMW Motorsport-developed S70 V12. Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox that still operates with precision. Lifting the bonnet, the engine bay is tidy with a number of components still coated in their original protective factory wax. The 5.6-litre powerplant has been well maintained throughout its life as documented in the accompanying paperwork. The last service was carried out in March 2021 at 122,750 miles.
The car is well preserved having been looked after by marque specialists through the years, but to make it a truly first-rate example some mechanical re-commissioning will be required, especially if it is put back into regular use. As a matter of course we have just had the car fully inspected for the new keeper’s peace of mind; leaks from the differential and power steering were identified, and we understand that the fuel pipes, front brake discs, and nearside rear upper suspension arm inner bush will need replacing for the next MOT (not due until March 2022).
We are selling the car on behalf of the current long-term owner who is unfortunately no longer in a position to have any additional work carried out prior to sale. The car is priced accordingly taking these factors into consideration.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
The 850 sits on original 17-inch two-piece alloys in excellent condition all round, finished with brand new genuine BMW centre badges. The wheels are free from any unsightly curb marking or corrosion and are shod in Continental tyres at the front with Falkens at the rear.
This rare 850CSi in Oxford Green Metallic was first registered in January 1995. It has now driven 122k miles in the hands of only 5 keepers from new, the current owner having purchased it from Tom Hartley 21 years ago. The car is currently registered on a rather fitting cherished plate “M888 BMW”, which is included with the sale.
The History File is complete with the original BMW document wallet, owner’s manuals, stamped service booklet, plenty of MOT certificates and a raft of maintenance invoices. The most recent service was carried out by marque specialists MJF Engineering at 122,750 miles in March 2021. The current MOT is valid until March 2022. The recorded service history is as follows:

As above, we understand that a few mechanical/electrical items will need addressing if the car is put back into more regular use. Unfortunately, the current owner is no longer in a position to have any such work carried out, and so these factors have been reflected in the price.
All in all, a very rare example in a desirable colour combo, competitively priced and boasting plenty of investment potential – not to be missed.
