Description
For sale very unique and rare MK1 CRX 1.6 16V
After 7 years of ownership its time to move on and let someone else enjoy it. The car started life with me as a tired old challenge car and after 4 long but enjoyable years of careful restoration has ended up a complete car that can hold it’s own at any car meet or show. It was the winner of the 1980’s vehicle at Cheshire Classic Car and Motorcycle show in 2019. It is a car built by me for me and has been a labour of love. Garaged throughout my ownership and never sees the rain. Cleaned only with Optimum No Rinse (ONR).
They are now very rare cars in the UK and although simple cars to work on very difficult and expensive to restore due to the lack of repair panels and parts available (most now requiring panels to be fabricated). The wings, nosecone, door panels and side skirts are all made of plastic and prone to cracks, splits etc.
I spent the early years of ownership sourcing genuine parts from all over the country and from Japan/USA. New parts were purchased where available and when not, good second hand parts were restored / re-commissioned. There are no non-genuine or spurious parts fitted anywhere on the car, every nut/bolt/clip is correct.
Anyone serious about buying a MK1 needs to do their homework and be aware that of the few remaining in the UK most will require serious attention and hide rust everywhere. The biggest problem being the sunroofs as the drain tubes shrink/leak resulting in water filling up in the arches/sills etc. Under the scuttle panel, around the windscreen, inner arches, rear arches, behind the fuel tank are all known areas. For years this car never had a sunroof, as it was plated over and in my opinion saved it’s life. The car was a sound base for the full restoration it has received in my ownership.
There is far too much to list but here is an overview of the car
Bodywork
The car underwent a full glass/interior out restoration in 2016 from top to bottom, back to bare metal in places. Rear arches replaced with civic 3G repair panels (same profile), custom fabrication to part of the inners, lower sill. Professional sunroof delete, custom metal panel fabricated with compound curve, welded. Full respray inside and out (only small part of the firewall not painted) in 2K primer and R63 Rio Red. The bodywork is in fantastic condition and looks as a good as the day it was painted. Importantly there is no rust, cracking body filler or other issues and it’s been nearly 4 years since the paint job. (The signs of a poor/cheap or quick restoration can easily show within months)
All bodywork where welding carried out treated with Hydrate 80 rust treatment, all inner sills/arches/front screen sprayed with Noxudol 700. Underbody treated with Dinitrol 3 stage system (RC900, underbody wax and stone chip).
In May 2018 it underwent an extensive 2-stage paint correction, detail and ceramic coating with Matt at Obsidian detailing in Saddleworth (pictures on his website) at a cost of £600. Full Optimum Gloss coat with guaranteed UV protection for 3 years applied to full vehicle including wheels and rear of exhaust.
The fuel tank has been removed, fully refurbished with the “Renu system”. Coated inside and out (cost over £400 alone). New genuine fuel lines, seals, clips etc. New tank straps made. (Extensive photos available). Most importantly all checked, rust proofed and under sealed.
Professional rear wiper delete with a genuine carbon fibre EDM rear boot spoiler from Heel Toe Auto USA (cost around £400 with import fees).
New genuine rear lights
Engine
The engine is a D16A9 (with correct number recorded on the V5) fitted with R6 bike carbs. The car was set-up and tuned by Bogg Brothers with one of their custom inlet manifolds. The car runs faultlessly, smooth, refined with improved throttle response over the standard fuel injection. Estimated to be around 125bhp.
Just prior to my ownership the engine was removed stripped, head cleaned, valves lapped, new seals, engine checked over. Block, gearbox and rocker cover painted.

Interior
Predominantly original and in very good condition. The dashboard is very clean with no holes, scuffs or major marks. There is the typical sun bleaching to the bottom edge where the dash meets the screen. There is no radio instead it is fitted with a genuine Honda blanking plate. (Preferred the sound of the carbs to music!). The door cards are in great condition. All of the rear black plastics have been restored using “raptor” which makes them all fresh, scratch and UV resistant. The headlining has been re-trimmed with a suede type fabric sunroof hatch blocked for OEM finish.
I have retained the rear safety devices anti roll bar, which fits neatly behind the rear seat.

There is far too much to list in this advert. I have a full breakdown of the last 7 years, with all receipts/invoices and extensive photographs of everything. The car wants for NOTHING and is ready for the new owner to enjoy.
I am asking £8,000 for the car, which in my opinion is fair for a CRX of this standard, with everything done. There are “original” low mileage examples up for sale at the moment around £12K. Whether or not they sell at this price is another matter. I would also be interested to see what’s lurking behind the fuel tank, inner arches/trims, under the windscreen etc on these vehicles as like I said earlier these cars can hide rust everywhere.
Serious enquiries only please. I am a mature owner. You are buying the car from me, with the V5 in my name at my house. There are no “tales” or “surprises” the car is as described. It is not “concours” or “mint” as people don’t appreciate this generally means better than when new, I would describe it as exceptional condition. For the purists out there it would not take much to make this totally original.
Any questions please ask.
I do have a build thread over on the CRX UK Forum under “Petes Mk1 Restoration project”
