Prior to its sale to me, the air-conditioning condenser was replaced, and a new rear light unit was fitted (the old one had cracked and filled with water). An over-rev report was carried out, which found 0 over-revs in range 2,3,4,5 or 6.
In February 2020 the car went to Revolution Porsche Specialists in Birstall, where the following work was carried out at 36,315 miles:
- Front brake discs and pads replaced
- Rear brake discs and pads replaced
- Front coolant crossover pipes replaced
- Replacement drivebelt tensioner, pulleys and belt
- 4-wheel alignment carried out
- Crankshaft oilseal replaced
- Front radiator pods cleaned out
In June 2020 the car had an intermediate oil and filter change, along with the spark plugs replaced – at the same time, the tandem pump replaced by Revolution Porsche and in January 2021 the upper sump was found to be leaking and was replaced by the same team.
The car is currently running on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, which have covered only 1500 miles. These are not Porsche N rated, but after extensive research and with this being Michelin’s newest performance tyre, I decided to purchase these instead of the much older N-rated Pilot PS2, I’ve been very happy with them.
I bought this 911 back in October 2019 from Maundrell’s in Oxfordshire, when the world seemed very different! I absolutely love it and am very sad to see it go – I would not be selling it, other than the fact that I am emigrating for work in the summer (I'm a car designer) and don’t fancy driving a car with the steering wheel on the wrong side.
I spent a long time looking at 911s before buying this, and for me it represents the perfect spec – it’s well equipped and very useable, the 997.2 representing probably the sweetspot of old-school 911 thrills, and modern technology making it very useable as a daily driver, which I do. If you’re looking you’ll also be aware that the generation 2 997 does not suffer from the issues the first generation does – namely, there isn’t an IMS to fail and the 9A1 engine is not known for suffering from bore scoring issues.
During the time I’ve owned it, it’s always been run on Shell V-power unleaded and has always been allowed to have the oil come fully up to temperature before being revved over 3000rpm, in the time that I’ve had it. It’s also – for a ten year old car, proven to be completely reliable – it’s never let me down, and the small wear and tear items have been attended to under the maintenance plan I have run this car on, at Revolution Porsche, respected Porsche Specialists near Leeds – who will vouch for the car. They declared the car clean underneath, with no corrosion.
The MOT runs until October 2021, and there were no advisories at the last test.
Overall, it’s a very nice example – not concours, as it’s been used as it should – there are a couple of front stone chips and slight kerbing on one alloy wheel, but it cleans up very well.
As you’ll probably be aware, manual low mileage Carrera S 997.2s aren’t that common, and are becoming increasingly collectible – so while I hate the term ‘appreciating asset’ I’m not looking to take a silly offer.
Test drives with masks worn, and proof of insurance.
Car is in Leeds.
