MINI Cooper S Cooper S Mk111 Recreation (1293cc fast road spec)
Mini Cooper S Mk111 recreation (1293cc fast road spec). This unique and very special Mini was built with no expense spared by a retired engineer in 2014-15 to recreate a Mk111, 1970 Mini Cooper S but with modern mechanical updating. The shell from a 1995 Rover Mini Sprite was stripped to bare metal and rebuilt on a rotisserie using only Heritage panels. It then had a full respray in Tartan Red with a Black roof. All the cavities were waxoil injected to keep the shell in this condition for years to come. The rear subframe was replaced with a genuine replacement and the front subframe cleaned and powder-coated. The front suspension was made up of a coil spring conversion, Hi Lows, Gaz Gold adjustable shocks, 1.5 degree negative camber bottom arms, adjustable rear camber plates and a KAD anti-roll bar at the rear. The brakes are alloy 4 pot calipers, 8.4 vented front discs with EBC green stuff pads and Minifins at the rear. The car has Revolution wheels fitted with 165/60 R12 Yokohamas which are in excellent condition. The 1293cc engine was built by Bill Richards and is superb, producing around 85 BHP. It starts on the button with an electric ignition with 4 pack coil for total reliability. The gearbox was rebuilt and has a KAD quick shift which really adds to the fun of driving. The interior was fully sound proofed and is comfortable and immaculate. This Mini was created for both ordinary and more sporting driving so offers both comfort and fun. The suspension was set up for comfort but also precise sharp handling which gives fantastic feel, confidence and feedback. It had covered just over 1700 miles in the 4 years from completion in the hands of the restorer until purchased by the previous owner in early 2019. The new original speedo showed 3262 miles after restoration in July 2015, 5024 miles on change of ownership in March 2019 and now 5711 miles: so very lightly used. There is a flashcard with around 100 photographs of the complete build, a thick file with every invoice from start to finish and the Bill Richards engine manual. Recent upgrades to the car include: Safety Devices Full Roll Cage and Sparco harness seat belts (the car has seen no competition but as well as the added security the shell is also nicely stiffer). Monte Carlo sump guard, again seen no action but reassuring on the country lanes. Paddy Hopkirk accelerator pedal extension. Further suspension improvement was gained by fitting new rubber cones with adjusters giving stiffer and more progressive dampening. New radio. Double USB/cigar bayonet charging points and new interior lighting.
