2001 TVR GRIFFITH 500

Aren’t you Lucky!! One Year On, and I’m Back Again!

This is one of the last TVR Griffith 500s. Specifically it is No 40 of the final 100 “Special Edition” SE examples. And this one is perhaps a VERY rare example – given its potentially unique combination of exterior and interior colourways.

This car was originally delivered from TVR Blackpool to the supplying dealership – Henley Heritage - with its bodywork resplendent in TVR’s very striking “Rolex Blue Pearl”.

This was complemented beautifully by its restrained and sophisticated interior, trimmed in Purple (Code V0770) and Portland Grey (Code V109) half hide.

The Dashboard has a beautifully executed Purple upper surface (so no reflections in the screen), and this contrasts stylishly with the Portland Grey of the Seats, Centre Console and Door Outer surround panels. A third colour is blended in handsomely in the form of the Chianti carpeting with Portland Grey binding.

Griffith SEs usually sported an engine-turned aluminium dashboard. But the first owner of No 40 of 100 preferred a more classical solution and specified Dark Burr Walnut! The embedded Instruments all have white faces - with easy to read black numbers - and feature aluminium surrounds.

The overall result is, dare we say it, somewhat “Blenheim Palace Salon Prive” – sophisticated, elegant and extremely tasteful. The words are explanatory, but the photos tell the story better. However, the car must be seen in real life - and preferably in bright sunlight – to be fully appreciated!!

The car’s wheels are, of course, the highly prized Griffith SE alloys. These are finished in the correct Original Equipment silver, are unmarked and are fitted with Toyo Proxes tyres (nearly new at the rear) . The TVR and Griffith 500 badges - front and rear - are presented in 'gold finish” and they work well against their Rolex Blue backing.

Lift the bonnet and you will find a very clean, (albeit not “garage Queen” ), 5.0 litre engine. You will also note the reservoir for the Power Assisted steering and the fact that the chassis is Dinitrol-protected; it has been since 2008. Needless to say, the complete chassis is in very good condition - as is every item of the car’s technical specification. The car has a full complement of stamped service cards in its (Purple, of course!) SE Handbook Cover- supported by original invoices in a very full Provenance File

We should at this stage say that the exterior and interior condition of Y134 KAN is exemplary. It has been owned by a cadre of 6 very meticulous owners. To give you a feel for the standards they set, when the third owner bought this Griffith, he was offended by the very few stone chips visible on the nose.

Accordingly, by his own admission, he somewhat extravagantly delivered his Griffith to the best TVR paint-shop in the Plymouth area and commissioned a total respray. This work was carried out when the car had covered some 29,000 miles. The car’s total mileage is now just over 34,000 miles – so not much scope for deterioration! And the most recent owner had the unblemished nose covered in self-healing Paint Protection Film (PPF) as soon as he was able after taking delivery.

When I reviewed the car’s service history, I noticed that the car went without MOTs and Services from Sept 2006 to June 2014. I contacted the third owner and he assured me that this wasn’t because the car had suffered damage. It was simply because His Profession was “hands on “ Property Development, which kept him very busy. He told me he enjoyed looking at the car as much as driving it! So the car was “SORN’d” for large portions of that time. He also told me that selling this car, his second Griffith, was the biggest mistake he ever made!

So why did the sixth owner sell his lovely Griff SE ? He is a definitive TVR Afficionado and an avid car collector , Hence the reason for so few miles in a year of ownershio of Y134 KAN. But he only sold it because he elected to buy an equally stunning Tuscan Mk 3 Convertible that we had for sale!

This unique TVR will be supplied with Str8six's renowned "All the 12s" handover specification - i.e. Full 12,000 miles service revisited, 12 mths MOT and our renowned 12 mths/12,000 miles Full Wear and Tear warranty covering parts and labour on the whole car. It does of course also have an inbuilt 12 volt Accumate trickle charger.
