THE APPEAL

If there is a car that comes to symbolise the epitome of the German Autobahnstormer, it is the Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG BiTurbo. With 600BHP on tap and packed with the latest technology, it was the ultimate Mercedes performance coupe of its generation.

Built between 2003 and 2005, the CL65 was based on the C215 chassis, and just 777 examples were sold worldwide. Today there are believed to be less than 20 on UK roads, which makes the 2005 Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG BiTurbo on sale here with Car and Classic a very rare beast indeed.

MOT until 26th January 2024 with no advisories (many of the advisories noted on its 2022 test have since been addressed)

The current owner acquired the car in August 2016 with 96,000 miles on the clock. In that time frame it has covered just over 9,080 miles in 6 years.

THE INTERIOR

This CL65 was ordered with a black interior which presents very well today

As is to be expected for a top of the line AMG of the day, it was fully loaded with a slew of options that hold their own even today

The leather seats, which have the desirable massage function in the front, and are also heated and cooled, are in good order with minimal signs of wear.

The extremely famous over engineered cup holder in the centre armrest has been replaced with a brand new one and functions as it should

The seller confirms all the switches, gauges and electrical items work as they should

The seller notes that the Satellite Navigation System has been updated to the latest DVD from Mercedes

The Alcantara head liner is in good clean condition

The rear window blind also goes up and down as it should as do the electric rear headrests, which pop down at the touch of a button

The seller adds that the Keyless Go, a smart key entry and startup system does work but is temperamental

THE EXTERIOR

This CL65 AMG BiTurbo was ordered new in Obsidian Black, which is a colour that really suits the muscular appearance of the V12 beast.

Today the original black paintwork has a lovely deep shine which looks very presentable. As it is a 17 year old car, it does have some marks, stone chips and light scratches which are documented in the photos below.

There are a number of spots of paint bubbling on the car, which are common areas on the W215 platform. There is some bubbling along the C pillar sections on the left and right side, on one corner of the roof by the sunroof, at the bottom of the B pillar on the drivers side. There is also some bubbling on the lower edges of both rear wheel arches and on the left corner below the passenger mirror. These are noted in the photos below.

There is a small dent in the right side chrome trim is present but it is easy to miss

There is a stone chip in the centre of the windscreen which is not noticeable at first

The CL65 is fitted with custom made MecXtreme3 19” wheels which have a set of new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. They really update the look of the car and give it a more aggressive stance.

The AMG alloys that came fitted with the car have recently been refurbished and are included in the sale, along with 2 spare tyres.

THE MECHANICS

6.0 litre V12 that produces 600BHP mated to a 5 speed automatic gearbox

The seller confirms that it drives as it should with phenomenal amounts of power and is incredibly smooth and comfortable on long journeys

The car has extensive service records including a fully stamped service book

Since acquiring the car in 2016 the current owner has had it serviced annually regardless of use and the most recent service was in August 2022

There are a considerable number of invoices on file with spends into the thousands, as the owner wanted to ensure the mighty V12 and its suspension were in tip tip order

This car was a labour of love for the current owner and the number of invoices and the expenditure shows the level of detail lavished on the cars mechanics. All works were carried out by Mercedes main dealers and specialists.

It is a V12 battleship that was a technological tour de force which continues to impress 19 years after its launch. This example has clearly been cared for by the current owner who lavished attention on it regardless of cost.
